I am a longtime equestrian and love horses and animals big and small. I love the outdoors, reading when I can, watching movies and needlepointing. I also love the water and traveling both domestic and abroad outside the U.S.
About Me
I am an adjunct writing and English professor at several colleges and universities in the area like the maryland">University of Maryland maryland/college-park">College Park and UMUC and Montgomery College. I am presently working on my PhD in the specialization of Post-Secondary Adult Education at Capella University. I would like to do research on educational programs and policies at the Department of Education ideally in Washington D.C.
Experience
I have over 13 years of instructional experience in higher education, approximately four years of experience in secondary and middle school instructional experience, and have tutored adults and youth of a variety of ages successfully in a variety of writing and English-related coursework.
Approach
I have always succeeded in my own life more with one-on-one help in my studies and smaller, more customized settings, having attended a small college myself which was a great fit for me. The relationships I had with helpful washington-dc">tutors from my youth through graduate school when I had professors who took time to help me outside the classroom always inspired me and empowered me that I could master challenging classes. I want to pay it forward now and help those who need that same boost I received!

I have a Master's degree in English from Washington College with a GPA of a 3.3. I have 30 graduate school credits completed in courses like 18th Century British Literature, Victorian Literature, Romantic Poetry, Nineteenth Century Novel, Shakespeare, and Intro to African-American Literature. I have taught junior-level British literature at a girls' private school in Baltimore and taught various literature-based courses in community colleges over the course of the past 13 years.

Based on my educational background with a M.A. and B.A. in English and as a present doctoral candidate in Post-Secondary and Adult Education and my vast instructional experience in English and writing classes at both the secondary and higher education levels, I have a great deal of knowledge and experience in what is needed in best reading comprehension skills as well as strategies for better critical reading skills. I have worked with students on reading skills particularly in classes and one on one which is often a large part of success in writing and English classes.

As an adjunct professor over the past 13 years I have often worked with students in office hours one on one on best study skills in writing and reading most successfully. I have also tutored adults and minors in a variety of subjects from English to math and science on best study skills.

I have specialized experience teaching ESL in a secondary level school for three years, have taught multiple courses at Baltimore City Community College in the ESL Program there for several years, and have taught English 101 to the ESL/international students for two years at the University of Maryland College Park.
