Fun Facts

If you ever walk down Grand Ave. and hear Stevie Wonder bumping from a car, it might be me. In addition to R&B, I enjoy listening to old-school hip-hop and funk. My passion for music most likely came from my involvement in the break-dance community in St. Louis (I can't spin on my head, but I'll be more than happy to show you a few footwork patterns). If I'm not dancing or listening to music, you can find me in my room writing a story. One day I hope to publish my own book!

About Me

I am a junior English major at Saint Louis University. After graduation, I plan on jumping right back into the classroom. My ultimate goal is to turn the dynamics of the classroom upside down and make learning fun and engaging.

Experience

This past summer I taught 5th grade math in New Orleans. I greatly enjoyed teaching them new subjects and learning about their lives. Before this past summer, I ran a dance club in high school and taught students how to break-dance.

Approach

It is my strong belief that intelligence is malleable. Each student -- no matter their personality, race, or current test score -- has the ability to solve a complex calculus derivative or write a beautiful poem. The only thing that is needed is persistence and the right mindset. As a teacher, it is my job to make sure my students never give up and that they understand that when they struggle with a problem or question they are actually growing their intelligence - not the other way around!

English Tutoring

My early passion for writing led me to pursue an English degree once I enrolled into St. Louis University. Now, in my third year there, I can look back at my academic career and confidently and unsurprisingly say my English courses have been by far my most successful courses in terms of grades and enjoyment. My strong English skills are the reason I have become the designated essay checker among my peers, where I look over their academic papers and suggest ways to improve them.

So far the English courses I've taken and received a B or higher include: Advance Strategies Rhetoric & Research, Origins of Modern World 1500 (completely composition based), English Composition, and British Literature.

Reading Comprehension Tutoring

My early passion for writing led me to pursue an English degree once I enrolled into St. Louis University. One of the many things I've learned about writing in college is that the best writers are also the best readers.
It takes an extraordinary amount of patience to become a good reader, and as an avid reader I've developed such patience - the kind of patience needed to teach reading too!

So far the courses that I've received a B or higher in and have required intensive reading (at least 50 pages a night) include: Advance Strategies Rhetoric & Research, Origins of Modern World 1500, Theological Foundations, and Approaching the Arts and Theater.
