About Me
About myself:
I am an artist and performer, an explorer and a creative individual with a passion for plants and cooking. I love mythology, science fiction, recipes, crafts and yoga. I believe in taking care of myself, other people, and the world as a whole through positive actions, healthy decisions and education. I'm a public health education enthusiast (my area of study in college) with a focus on alternative healing modalities, mindfulness, and overall well-being. Currently I'm living a freelance life where I've managed to surround myself with things I enjoy. I'm in the process of starting an arts organization that increases accessibility and frequency of art in the community.
Experience as a portland">tutor:
I've been working with SMART (Start Making A Reader Today) the last couple school years, working with children 5-7 to increase their reading-comprehension/oregon/portland">reading comprehension. I've been in charge of group and individual work with kids 5-10 for art and theater camp. I've also unofficially tutored my many younger cousins throughout various life stages (I have 11!) so I'm well-equipped for working with teenagers.
portland">Tutoring approach:
I am there to support the student finding a way to make learning (or at least some of the information) easy to relate to and enjoyable so they will feel determined to continue their education. Throughout my studies I have seen the importance of finding meaning in the things you are being taught-- how it can change your entire educational AND personal world to realize that you can learn it/know it/do it too. Though I understand how the idea of grades can overshadow a student's experience, I am there not just to improve grades but to inspire and promote change. My focus is not on grades, but on the student doing the best they can.
