Fun Facts
My students often say that they know I'm close because they can hear me singing. I love to sing, and I'm often making up songs about what's happening around me. My favorite subject in school was always literature, but I much prefer teaching math. It's the subject with all the "toys" plus you can make up really fun songs about multiplication.
About Me
I have a couple of Masters degrees in my two passions: literature and education, but in the future, I would like to work toward an administrator's license. I love the classroom and spending time with children, but I enjoy pushing myself and trying new challenges which means that in the next 3-5 years, I'll probably shift gears to administration.
I have been teaching for the past 15 years. I started teaching college Spanish when I was completing my Masters degree at Southwest Texas State University. I began as a teaching assistant and soon I was in charge of my own classroom. Then about 5 years ago, I realized I wanted to make a difference and work with children in poverty, so I went back to school to earn a teaching license. I now teach 4th grade Spanish Immersion, and I feel truly blessed to have such amazing work.
My teaching philosophy is to first build a relationship with my students through the academic content. Most students learn better and find more joy in learning when they're personally engaged in the subject matter, so knowing what a student's passionate about helps me personalize my teaching. Everyone has experiences that can help enrich their learning, and I feel it's my job to help them make that connection.
