About Me
I am currently considering going into graduate school for Education while informing my decision for a future long-term career through diverse volunteer and work experiences. I have been moving throughout the past several years toward more socially engaged work. Social justice/youth empowerment, education, and creative expression are among the values I most passionately hold.
Before portland">tutoring through Frog portland">Tutoring, I worked as a volunteer with various organizations, portland">tutoring college students in English as a foreign language, first graders in math and reading, and mentoring and portland">tutoring middle school-aged kids in a variety of settings and topics. I currently volunteer as a youth mentor for Big Brothers Big Sisters, as a homework helper at Friendly House's after school program, and at Raphael House as an advocate for survivors of domestic violence and their families. These experiences have all contributed to an empathetic understanding of varied student perspectives.
I am patient with students, preferring them to arrive at their own conclusions whenever possible. I use redirecting questions and positive reinforcement to empower students to more deeply engage with the learning process, while remaining aware of when a more nuanced explanation is necessary. portland">Tutoring time is not only spent facilitating learning, but providing students with the tools to study on their own with more effectiveness as well.
