Fun Facts

I love to read--especially novels about augmented reality--and spend free time writing short stories. I moved to Philadelphia from a very small, rural town in Ohio and have loved being able to call Philly home for the past five years. My other hobbies include hiking nearby trails, biking around Philly to explore new neighborhoods, and playing board games.

About Me

I am a recent graduate with a bachelor's degree in Sociology and a lot of experience working in Philadelphia educational nonprofits. I have helped develop curriculum and programming my roles and look forward to moving my skills into the classroom through an accelerated master's program starting this summer.

Experience

I began working in youth development as an outdoor summer camp counselor during high school. During my time at Temple University, I spent nearly two years as a volunteer/intern at Tree House Books helping to coordinate programming and promote literacy among 1st - 6th graders in North Philadelphia. I also served as a coach for Gear Up where I was placed in a 10th grade English class at a Kensington high school to provide academic support and information about higher education options.

Approach

I am a proponent of experiential learning and, wherever possible, I try to give students the opportunity to try things, make mistakes, and help them learn through them. I believe my role as a tutor is to encourage students and guide them to discover the right answers and processes on their own. My approach to tutoring is to provide the necessary context and background in ways that make sense for individual students and then work on problems alongside them, encouraging questions and perseverance.
