Fun Facts

My name is Erika and I have so much talent. I love all kinds of music including: gospel, hip-hop and my favorite smooth jazz. When I was five years old I taught myself how to play the piano by ear without reading music. If I hear a tune on the radio long enough I have the ability to play the song as well.
I also enjoy watching and playing sports such as football, basketball, and softball.

About Me

I'm a mother of three children and I'm the oldest out of 11 brothers and sisters. I just completed my Master's Degree from Indiana Wesleyan University. My ultimate goal is to become a state representative in Congress to help working families to get the things that they need to survive.

Experience

I've tutored children from grades kindergarten through eight grade four years combined. My main focus was to increase literacy and comprehension skills among my students. However, I've also helped with other homework assignments and class projects as well. I truly enjoy showing children all the different things that they can do to make their academic careers meaningful and also help students be successful and enjoy learning as much as possible.

Approach

While tutoring I have a laid back approach and I try to make my tutoring sessions as fun as possible. Before any tutoring session I may ask a student how was their day, or did they look at a television program or game the night before. I do not just want to tutor my students but I want to be able to build a relationship of trust and friendship. Tutoring should be a place where a child can relax and learn at the same time.
