Fun Facts

I bake and craft in my spare time, and my specialties include plum cake and needlepoint embroidery. I was named for a poem by the poet Bon Jonson, who was a contemporary of Shakespeare. My favorite authors include Aldous Huxley, Craig Thompson and Marie de France.

About Me

I was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, but spent my high school years in Rochester, New York, where my family still lives. I am a rising junior currently studying comparative literature at Columbia University, specializing in French and German. Within my major, I focus primarily in European medieval art history, literature, religion, and history. At Columbia, I am also a member of a literary and debate society which is the university's oldest student group.

I have had informal experience tutoring my peers in both high school and college. In these capacities, I have mostly tutored in the subjects of French and German. Besides that, I have extensive experience in children's art education, ages 4-18, as both a camp counselor and as a teacher's assistant.

I strongly believe that everyone has different methods of learning, and that a tutor's teaching style must adapt to accommodate those methods. I also believe that even within that, as a tutor, I need to constantly find new ways of engaging students, and keeping them interested and enthusiastic. The most seemingly boring subject can be made interesting with the right attitude and approach, as much as the most interesting can be made dull by a lackluster attitude. Still, in overall learning and studying techniques, it is essential that students develop strong habits and schedules in order to maintain a robust academic focus.
