Fun Facts
I'm an animal advocate, and dog mom to a cute border collie and lab mix, Maisie and a scruffy, terrier mix, Miley. I've studied abroad and travelled to 16 countries (8 going solo, and my favorite city was Istanbul, Turkey). I also plants (with over 70 in my house), so you'll find every surface covered in green!
About Me
I am a content strategist at a large financial institution in Charlotte, working on the Experience Design team. I am an alumna of Clemson with my M.A in Writing, Rhetoric and Media, where I focused on technical writing, user experience design and research, content strategy-- and you guessed it, rhetoric! I also earned my B.A. in English, and a minor Technical and Professional Writing from charlotte">UNC Charlotte. Go Niners!
Experience
I worked as a writing tutor for three years at charlotte">UNC Charlotte's Writing Resources Center. I had the opportunity to tutor students and faculty across many disciplines and levels of writing. I trained and worked as a Lindamood-Bell clinician for one summer, where I gained invaluable experience working with students with learning disabilities, like audio-processing disorders and hyperlexia. Working with Frog Tutoring will expand my opportunities to work with writers and learners of all ages!
Approach
I believe that tutoring is the best opportunity to provide 1-1 supplemental attention to students, and focus in on manageable lessons and goals. I join each session understanding that every student has a set of different needs and goals, and that different approaches can work for every student. I truly enjoy working with students and seeing them hit that "aha!" moment-- nothing is more rewarding!

MastersEnglish Tutoring
I'm a senior English major, and I have taken many courses from technical writing and digital media to modern literature courses. For example:
ENGL 3100 Approaches to Literature
ENGL 3180 Language and Digital Technology
ENGL 4112 Modern World Literature
ENGL 4181 Writing User Documents
ENGL 4182 Info Design and Digital Publishing
ENGL 4400 Theory and Practice of Tutoring
I made A's in all of these courses, and they aided my ability to approach different aspects of the English subject.
In graduate school, where I am one year away from my MA in Writing, Rhetoric, and Media, I have taken the following courses and passed with an A:
Rhetorical Theory and Practice
Digital Rhetoric Across Media
Visual Rhetorics
Digital Approaches to Literature and Culture
Content Strategy
Composition Theory
Literature Tutoring
See "English" for these qualifications.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
See "English" section.
Study Skills Tutoring
As an undergraduate, I was a full-time student (often at 18+ hour workloads), and I worked three jobs at any given time. I learned time-management very quickly, and study strategies to maintain a high GPA. Now in graduate school, these study skills continue to transform; as a "dog mom" to two puppies, working two jobs remotely, on top of a full course load, thesis work, and an assistantship, study skills are more important than ever.
Writing Tutoring
See "English."
AP English Tutoring
I took AP English my senior year of high school, and I received a 5. I feel confident tutoring in this exam, especially working on the 30 minute writing portion.
Study Skills Tutoring
In every level of my education, I've received high scores and grades. However, they didn't come through natural talent (we all wish that, right?) or without hours of studying. I have had to work on my own study skills throughout the years to accommodate subjects I struggled with, or simply deal with procrastinating and creating reasonable skills.
Italian Tutoring
I have taken Beginner Italian 1 and 2, and Intermediate Italian 1 at UNCC, and received A's in all of these courses.
Spanish Tutoring
I have taken Spanish 1-4 in high school, and placed out of Spanish 4 in a college placement exam.
Social Studies Tutoring
I have volunteered with elementary school children in programs like Y-Readers and Lunch Buddies. I feel confident in Social Studies at the elementary level, as well as approaching tutoring sessions with children at this level.
History Tutoring
In high school, I took AP US History and earned the top score in my class, as well as a 5 on the AP test. I love history, and look forward to tutoring this subject.
ESL Tutoring
As a prior writing tutor, I worked extensively with English Language Learners, and I understand how to work with these students. I was trained in 4400 Theories of Tutoring, where I focused my cognate area on English Language Learners.
Graduate Level Writing Tutoring
As a graduate student of a Writing, Rhetoric and Media program, and a previous English major and writing tutor, I am extremely competent and proficient in tutoring writing. I am a trained first-year writing college teacher, with Composition Theory, and I have studied rhetoric extensively.
