Fun Facts

I am a passionate person, especially about languages. I continue to study Spanish every day, and I am excited to branch out someday soon and learn another language, like Arabic. I also love being active; volleyball is my favorite, and I like to pretend I'm a runner. Another passion of mine is music. I played the flute and piccolo through college, and I am constantly listening to music. I tend to get into moods and listen to the same artist for months at a time. My current obsession is Hamilton!

About Me

I have studied Spanish since I fell in love with the language and culture in 4th grade. I continued studying Spanish through high school, eventually majoring in Spanish Education at Bowling Green State University. I then continued on to get my Masters in Spanish at the same school. I was fortunate enough to study abroad in Spain during both my undergraduate and graduate experiences. I taught Spanish for three years at the high school level before deciding to pursue my passion another way.

Experience

During my undergraduate studies, I tutored students in different subjects as part of our Help A Child experience for the education portion of my degree. As part of our fellowship program in graduate school, I taught Spanish 101 at the college level for two semesters. During my three years of teaching, I offered tutoring days after school through what the students called "S.O.S" ("Save Our Spanish"). I have taught students with a variety of learning styles, and I love finding what works for them.

Approach

I believe strongly in the importance of learning another language in today's world, and that anyone can learn if they want to. Being self-aware and reflective is important as a student so that together, we can figure out how each student learns best. As a teacher, I enjoy creating a variety of activities to maximize student retention. Students need material that is comprehensible yet challenges them, relevant to their lives yet opens their eyes to the world.

Education Tutoring

I studied education during my undergraduate studies, eventually majoring in Spanish Education. I also currently work at a publishing company for educational materials. I believe those experiences, coupled with my real world experience as a teacher, would bring a unique approach to tutoring in Education.

Spanish I Tutoring

Upon graduating college, I was licensed to teach Kindergarten through 12th grade Spanish. Spanish 1 is my favorite subject to teach. I have taught it at both the high school and college levels. I love introducing students to a completely different language and culture than their own, and my creativity lends itself well to fun topics like sports and classes.

Spanish II Tutoring

Upon graduating college, I was licensed to teach Kindergarten through 12th grade Spanish. Spanish 2 is one of the most important, formative years in the language learning process. During this year, students traditionally struggle with past tenses and vocabulary that expands past their own world. This particular level is fun for me because I like coming up with different ways for students to understand a topic. I have taught Spanish 2 at both the high school and college levels.

Spanish III Tutoring

Upon graduating college, I was licensed to teach Kindergarten through 12th grade Spanish. Spanish 3 is a very challenging year, where students are pushed into more advanced topics. During this year, students traditionally struggle with making sense of more complex grammar points in both writing and speaking. My favorite part about this year is that student progress is so obvious to both the teacher and the student. I have taught Spanish 3 at the high school level.

Spanish Tutoring

Upon graduating college, I was licensed to teach Kindergarten through 12th grade Spanish. Each level has its own unique challenges and successes. I love introducing students to a completely different language and culture than their own, and my creativity lends itself well to fun topics at the beginning level. I also enjoy thinking outside the box, which helps when presenting complex material to the upper levels.
