Fun Facts
I love video games, including playing them and the art that goes behind them. I'm a big fan of really beautiful games with great stories such as Life Is Strange. I'm the 2nd youngest out of 8 and go on vacation out of the country at least once a year. My most recent vacation was across Europe to the countries of Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy.
About Me
I am a second year Medical Sciences student at Houston Community College and a first year in the Medical Laboratory Technician program at HCC Coleman. I hope to transfer to Texas A&M to pursue a bachelor's degree in elementary education. My goal is to become an elementary school teacher here in the state of Texas.
Experience
I tutored children in my neighborhood while I was in high school, several of them being bilingual and needing help in English or ESL students needing help in all subjects. I also have experience helping my brother with his homework as he grew up and assisting students in school as needed.
Approach
In high school, I lost a lot of motivation due to the upcoming stress of college applications and just college in general. had no idea what I wanted to do and the fact that the classes I was taking at the time were irrelevant to what I found interesting was just not a good environment for learning. That experience made me want to help others find their passion in learning so they don't have to go through what I did in high school and they could find the fun in any of the classes they take.
Request Me NowBiology I Tutoring
My degree plan is medical laboratory science and I've taken General Biology 1 and am currently taking microbiology; In high school I also took Biology 2 AP. I have some experience helping my younger brother and fellow classmates when it comes to the memorization and understanding of the theories relative to biology. My degree is relative to the subject because it deals with the biology of the immune system and other functions of humanity and life in general.
Microbiology Tutoring
I am currently taking microbiology in college, but I've also taken Immunology, Hematology, and Urinalysis which also use the basic concepts of microbiology. I do not have much experience in tutoring specifically for microbiology, but in the other subjects I've mentioned, I have helped classmates with previously. My degree plan's main focus is microbiology, so I believe I could be a good fit for tutoring in this subject.
Spanish I Tutoring
Spanish was my primary language growing up and I also took Spanish classes from 7th grade onward, including AP Spanish in my senior year of high school. I do have experience in helping others with this subject especially because it was my first language and I am best when it comes to vocabulary and conversations. My degree is not exactly relevant to this subject, but I know being bilingual will be useful when interacting with foreign coworkers.
Anatomy Physiology I Tutoring
In high school, I took a year long anatomy and physiology course and in college I've taken Anatomy & Physiology 1. I have some experience from high school in helping others with memorization and have even assisted the teacher in teaching some concepts with the use of drawings. My degree is mostly related to the subject because we deal with all of the body fluids and have to understand how they are produced and where they are produced or stored as well as all of their components and how those are produced and stored.
English Tutoring
In high school, I took AP and honors level English classes. I have helped students learn English as a second language, so I believe I can be helpful with those who have English as their primary language as well. In my degree plan, we are constantly learning new words and have to present case studies professionally, so I believe that would help with tutoring because I can help show how to use English in both a professional and casual setting.
Science Tutoring
My entire degree plan is focused on the sciences, especially chemistry and biology/microbiology. I have helped several students of all levels with science and I hope to help students have more fun with it as well.
Math Tutoring
My degree focuses mainly on chemistry and biology, but math is also a large part of it. In my degree, we have to calculate using formulas how many white blood cells a person may have in their blood based on a small sample size that can be as small as 0.1 microliters. I feel I do well enough in math to teach it and to help others learn and better understand the concepts behind most math problems.
Middle School Math Tutoring
In middle school, I took both the standard math classes and, because I was in the gifted & talented program, Algebra 1. I understand that most middle school math is mainly about basic concepts of geometry, algebra, and stuff like long division and fractions. I also understand that many children have issues understanding those concepts since they are a lot more complicated than the math they learned in elementary school.
Pre Algebra Tutoring
My degree has much to do with algebra and basic algebraic concepts. I excelled in pre-algebra/algebra type classes all through out my life. i have also assisted my younger brother in greatly understanding mathematical concepts.
Spanish Tutoring
My primary language growing up was Spanish. I have tutored/helped in Spanish since I started taking Spanish classes in middle school. I also have a ton of practice in conversational Spanish after spending 2 weeks in Spain, several vacations across Latin America, and visiting family in Mexico.
Elementary Math Tutoring
I have the greatest experience in helping younger children understand math concepts. I have tutored both Spanish and English speakers in elementary school math since I was in high school. I personally have to reteach myself basic math concepts from time to time to make chemistry and science math in general a little more simple.
Clarinet Compostion Tutoring
I played clarinet for 7 years when I was in public school. I have experience with sight reading, marching band, and solos/ensembles. I still play for fun, but not with a college band as my college does not have one.
Adobe Photoshop Tutoring
In my third semester of college, I took a Digital Art class that required me to learn photoshop extensively. I was able to find ways to manipulate photos into becoming different scenes. I also used photoshop to help create a layout for a website as my final project in that class.
HTML Tutoring
I first studied HTML on my own in middle school to create club layouts for a website similar to neopets. In a digital art class I took in my third semester of college, I had to relearn/reintroduce myself to the concepts of HTML for my final project. That project consisted of making my own website which I used tumblr's HTML-based layouts to help me figure out, but created the code from scratch.
