Fun Facts

I prefer to go by Simon, not Deenah, so please call me that.

I can play the drums and I'm learning how to play the bass! My family calls me "the animal whisperer" and my favorite color is purple. I can do a back-bridge without having to sit down first. I've been writing short stories and poems since I was five years old.

About Me

I'm a third year university student working on my degree in Behavioral Science with an emphasis in sociology, plus a minor in child/adolescent development. My plan is to mold my course work to suit working with disadvantaged groups, including tutoring, relief services, teaching, and counseling.

This is my first time tutoring professionally and I aim to be stellar.

Tutoring is not teaching; it is a supplement to teaching for students who cannot keep up with the class or do not understand. Therefore, tutors should not teach; they should guide. My approach to tutoring is to guide the students with questions to find their own answers, drawing from the knowledge I share with the student, the student's notes, and the student's text book. This way the student learns the material and becomes more self-reliant in cultivating new approaches to learning it in the future as well as asking more specific questions besides, "I don't get it," a question that is usually thrown out because the student is insecure about asking for help, looking "dumb," or being unfamiliar with the subject matter.
