Fun Facts

A few of my passions include running, playing the piano, and volunteering. I recently trained for and ran my first half-marathon with a few of my best friends. I love playing the piano and used to teach piano lessons and play at local nursing homes in the neighborhood where I grew up. Currently, I spend my Thursday nights volunteering in the University of Arizona's Emergency Department.

About Me

I am a pre-medical student, majoring in Molecular and Cellular Biology and minoring in Psychology, at the University of Arizona Honors College. I transferred here during the summer of 2012. Previously, I spent three years at the University of Minnesota, Twin Cities. I recently took the MCAT and am currently applying for medical school for Fall 2014 matriculation. Most of my advanced coursework has been in Biology and Psychology, although I would be very capable of tucson">tutoring other subject areas as well. I believe I would be a great candidate for this position. I am organized, reliable, and self-disciplined. I have an upbeat, proactive attitude, and I enjoy helping kids get excited about learning and motivated to meet their goals. As a tucson">tutor, I believe I would be good at finding creative solutions to help each student overcome his or her individual challenges.

Experience

In high school, part of my role as a member of the National Honor Society was to hold tucson">tutoring hours in the school's library. I used to teach piano lessons for elementary and middle school students, and I volunteered piano lessons to an English as a Second Language high school student. As an undergraduate, I was a Child Life volunteer at Shriners Hospitals for Children, where I gained valuable experience with children with special needs.

Approach

I believe one of the best strategies to being successful is to have clearly defined goals and methods to reach those goals. Challenges and concerns should be discussed beforehand and throughout the learning experience so that mentors and students can find creative solutions to overcome areas of difficulty. Depending on the age, the student should be held to a certain degree of accountability, however it is important to help the student stay motivated and not get discouraged.
