Fun Facts
Born and raised in south Florida I'm used to hot weather and beaches with warm waters so I'm still adjusting to northern weather! That being said, I actually enjoy the snow and like to take trips to ski resorts during the season. In high school I played football, was part of the jazz band, and the math honor society (Mu Alpha Theta). I'm also an avid chess player and regularly play online as well as in tournaments.
About Me
I recently graduated with a Masters in Materials Science and Engineering from maryland">University of Maryland. I primarily worked in a biomedical engineering lab where I studied materials that can be used for gene therapy. I also have a Bachelors in Physics, with a minor in Mathematics from Florida International University. I hope to continue growing in my field where I can continue to contribute to our scientific understanding.
Experience
In high school, I volunteered to stay after school and assist teachers with students who were studying for SAT, ACT and FCAT, particularly the math portions. I surpassed the minimum 75 hour community service requirement for the scholarship, primarily through such tutoring. In addition, I've always been glad to help out fellow students, friends (or their friends), strangers, and relatives with their struggles in math or physics courses throughout my college years as well.
Approach
I believe many people have much greater potential than they realize, and are too quick to put themselves down especially in the math and sciences. I help students bring out their potential by focusing on conceptual understanding of the topic, rather than plain memorization. I motivate students by helping them see the problems as fun, little puzzles they can solve by breaking them down into simpler parts.
