About Me

I am a senior Psychology and Child Development double major at TCU. I plan on going to graduate school for my Masters in Counseling Psychology.
As a member of Mu Alpha Theta in high school, I tutored a 5th grader once a week in mathematics during my senior year. For the past three years in college, I tutored 6th through 8th graders in mathematics in group sessions. This past summer, I was a private mathematics tutor for a 9th grader. All the students I have worked with not only needed help reinforcing the material, but how to study and complete their homework and assignments thoroughly and on time, so I helped instill some tips on how to achieve this.
When tutoring a student, it is imperative that you explain concepts clearly and in a way that is specific to the student. It may help to explain concepts in a different way than how his or her teacher has previously explained it. I have found what works for one student may not work for another student. I think it is also important to ask the student many questions, allow them to ask you questions, and to make sure that the answers are not given to the student, so they learn how to work the problems out themselves.
