Fun Facts

I really enjoy making quillows. What is a quillow? it is a quilt (blanket )that folds into a pillow. I like to choose matching materials when I get an order. One side is fleece and the other is a cotton blend. The one that I recently finished was a pink/white fleece on one side and Raiders football pattern black/white on the other side. I put a stuffed animal in the pocket for a surprise gift. I put a pink/white build-a-bear monkey in the pocket.

About Me

I am a mother of five and a substitute teacher. I have worked for APS for nine years grades pre-K thru 12. I also, work for the CABQ during the summer for the Summer Lunch program. I love to learn new subjects and crafts. I have one child still at home and help care for my 95 year old mother and her 91 year old brother. I like having a flexible work schedule.

Experience

I needed to make a job change and had numerous college credits and my twin sister suggested I try substitute teaching. I have done long term assignments, half day assignments, and daily assignments. I have also worked for WIDA administering reading and science testing. I have worked for Westat as a NAEP data collections position. I have tutored many students over the past eight years. Currently I have one student who I tutor in math.

Approach

I like to start off by letting the student know that I am there to help them succeed. I do not judge but help them to understand what they don't know. I have always loved learning and I enjoy help all my students to the point that they don't need my help. That tells me that I have done my job. I use index cards to write down definitions of math questions that the student can review when they are working on their own. I want to finish my education and receive a degree in teaching.
