Fun Facts
I love reading historical fiction novels. Outlander is my favorite by far. I hope to one day be able to move to Scotland to live and teach. I enjoy singing and have taken lessons in the past in hopes of snagging a role in a musical. That obviously did not come to fruition.
About Me
I teach world literature at South Paulding High School. I have a B.S. in Middle Grades education with a concentration in language arts and social studies from the University of West Georgia. I have a M.A in teaching and learning from Nova Southeastern Univerisity as well as a Ed.S in English education. I graduated with a 3.8 G.P.A in my program courses at UWG, 4.0 in both my masters and specialists programs at NSU
Experience
I taught middle school language arts for nine years and high school English for two years. Additionally, I teach a SAT prep course offered as an elective at my school. I have been employed with Sylvan Learning Center in Hiram since August 2015, but sadly the center is closing.
Approach
As a child, I struggled in school emotionally and academically. I was fortunate enough to have a teacher who, through positive encouragement and persistence, helped me realize my true potential. As a tutor, I attempt to bring this attitude to all of my sessions. Instead of giving students answers, I feel it is my responsibility to not only teach them the content but study skills that will help them be successful in all classes!

English Tutoring
I currently teach world literature at my high school. I spent nine years teaching high school language arts and/or social studies.
Graduate Level Writing Tutoring
Having been in graduate school, I have much experience with graduate level writing. As a requirement of my master's program, I had to complete a capstone paper to earn my degree. As a requirement of my education specialist program, I had to complete an action research project. This project required much research and writing.
Literature Tutoring
Literature is my passion and I love teaching it. It is important that students read a variety of literature to increase reading comprehension, vocabulary, and writing skills.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
Reading comprehension is a vital skill for students to be able to be successful in life. If one cannot read, he/she will not be able to effectively communicate.
Study Skills Tutoring
I have taught a number of students to organize themselves and set up a routine study time. I have taught them how to prioritize assignments and keep a calendar of when assignments are due, upcoming tests, and projects.
Writing Tutoring
Another passion I have is writing. I teach my students a formula that is proven effective when constructing paragraphs. To support an idea, it is important to use text evidence to add validity to the paper. Therefore, using a method called "chunk paragraphs" makes paragraph construction easier to write and keep to the point.
