Fun Facts

I absolutely adore dogs! I have a dog of my own named Maya; she is a black lab/collie mix and she is the cutest pup on the planet. I also love to travel. I recently came back from studying abroad in New Zealand and spent some time in Australia.

About Me

I am a senior Psychology major at Arizona State University in Barrett, the Honors College. This year, I am working on completing my honors thesis in cognitive neuroscience and neuroimaging. I will be applying to PhD programs in Clinical Neuropsychology this fall.

Experience

I am currently a professional tutor and mentor at Arizona State University in the department of Sun Devil Athletics. I work directly with athletes to ensure not only that they are eligible to compete, but also that they understand and excel in their courses.

Approach

I like to think of my tutoring approach as less of an expert-student model and more of a peer-to-peer kind of model. I believe that it is important to be comfortable and relaxed in a tutoring environment- too often stress and anxiety interfere with our ability to learn. I would like to be a reassuring figure in my students' academic lives and hope to help them succeed in bettering their stress and time management.

I have taken:

Math Tutoring

I used to be a superstar at math, but I finished my math days in high school when I tested out of calculus, so it has been quite a while since I have done any high-level computations. That being said, I can still help with low-level math classes (below pre-calculus).

I have completed all undergraduate psychology courses required for a Bachelors of Science in Psychology including but not limited to:
Introductory Psychology (A+)
Physiological Psychology (A)

Developmental Psychology (A)
Clinical Psychology (A)
Abnormal Psychology (A+)
Personality Theory (A+)
Human Sexual Behavior (A)

Sociology Tutoring

While I have not taken many sociology courses, many topics discussed in psychology translate to the field of sociology. I have tutored numerous sociology courses while at ASU and have learned that it is mostly study techniques that are crucial to passing these types of classes, techniques that I can help you with.

I have taken the following:
Introduction to Sociology (A+)

Writing Tutoring

English is one of my strongest subjects and is required for my major. I have taken the following courses:

ENG 101 (A)
ENG 102 (A+)
ENG 394: Voice and Image (A)

English has always been one of my strongest subjects. I scored extremely high on the ACT and SAT in the Verbal sections and scored 4's and 5's on my AP English tests.

AP History Tutoring

While in high school, I took AP World History, AP United States History, and AP United States Government, all classes in which I attained an A.
I received passing scores on all AP tests, most notably a 5 on my AP US History test.

GED Tutoring

I graduated in the top 1% of my class, so I feel confident in my ability to do what it takes to get through those tough high school courses. The GED is a great way to fast-track that diploma, and I'm happy to take the skills that I learned while in high school and translate them to you in your quest to wrap up this chapter in your life.

Homework Coach Tutoring

In my long academic career, I have never earned less than an A in any class- from elementary school all the way through college. While this is in no way the expectation I have for you, I do believe that keeping organized and balanced is the key to success. These two things, among others, are things I would love to translate to you as a homework coach.

Social Studies Tutoring

Social studies was my favorite subject in elementary school, and boy have I learned so much since then.

Spanish Tutoring

While I am not fluent in Spanish, I did take three years of the language in high school and I feel confident in my ability to teach it at an elementary level. My closest peers know Spanish as their first language, so if I ever need help with lesson plans, I can turn to seasoned veterans in the language.

I scored at or above the 95th percentile in all subjects of the PSAT.

SAT Verbal/Writing Tutoring

I attained a near-perfect score on my SAT Verbal section.
