Fun Facts
I was homeschooled until college, so it was just me and my four siblings for most of the time. We didn't have TV in the house until I was about 15, so I read a lot of books and I continue to love reading still. All of that reading created and fueled my passion for writing. I've written several novel-length works and a large number of short stories. I particularly love to create flash fiction (shorter than 500 words or so) off of random prompts.
About Me
I am a super senior Communication Studies major and Creative Writing minor at Texas Christian University. I am a Dean's Scholarship recipient and I finished the lower level Honors program. For the past two years I've been an Assistant Hall Director in Moncrief Hall. My sophomore year I was on the TCU Forensics Speech and Debate team and made it to the national semi-finals in debate. I love working with people and watching them grow and hope to always work in a field that allows me to do that.
Experience
I always helped my younger siblings with math, writing and reading and I've continued to help friends and family with essays throughout college. In my sophomore year I worked at the TCU Writing Center where I helped a large variety of students, both in person and through email. There I provided assistance for students on every aspect of writing (grammar, sentence structure, organization, citations, etc.) with the goal of teaching them how to improve rather than simply correcting their work.
Approach
I always work to listen more than I speak, because if I don't understand the problem that a student is having, then I can do nothing to help. Communication is key in both figuring out what isn't working and also what needs to change in order to fix the problem. I find that most people can solve their own problems and that my main purpose is to be a guiding influence toward that goal. Success is worth so much more when you achieve through your own merit.
