Fun Facts
I am originally from Portland, OR, which is rare in some circles and geographical locations these days. It has been interesting for me to watch Portland grow and change.
About Me
I am a special education teacher in Portland, OR. I love my dog, like to garden and read, and enjoy being active: hiking, backpacking, and running. I have run three marathons and many half marathons. I also enjoy traveling: I have journeyed all over South America, and visited Costa Rica, Panama, Mexico, Canada, Spain, France, Italy, England, Ireland, and Scotland.
Experience
I have been a learning specialist for five years but been in education for nine. I began as a Spanish-speaking liaison and became invested in working with families throughout the special education process. I have worked in Centennial S.D., Portland Public S.D., and Woodburn S.D. My job is to work with students confronting a variety of challenges to their success and I am passionate about helping them achieve their potential.
Approach
While growing up, I was dedicated to school but struggled with ADHD. I understand what it's like to have difficulty organizing multi-step assignments, processing large amounts of spoken ideas and concepts, retain verbal instructions, and focus on one task and maintain that focus. I bring this experience and a steady patience to working with different learners. I am committed to helping students reach their goals in whatever way works for them.
