Fun Facts
I love to garden and enjoy sharing the fruits and vegetables I harvest my urban, elevated garden. I just built a new one and have been working non-stop in it during the summer. Traveling is another passion of my mine. I have taken two groups of students overseas and trip number three is taking place next summer.
About Me
I am a high school German teacher and also supervise the district English as a second language program. I have been teaching foreign languages for 11 years and I have been overseeing the ESL/ELL program for five years. I have a Master's degree in Education and another Master's degree in English as a second language. My Bachelor's degree is in German.
Experience
I have instructed German for 11 years and taught/supervised an ESL/ELL program for 5 years. Every year, I have 100 of more students taking German and typically have 15 to 20 ELL K-12 students I oversee in the program. I also directly instruct the high school age students.
As a young child, I grew up in a bilingual family and developed an appreciation for languages. My desire to help others learn second languages blossomed from this experience into my current profession.
Approach
Making second language learning fun is a vital component to the profession. The neat part about languages is the role playing and customizing I can incorporate in lessons to help spark interest among students. I always try to contextualize my lessons, showing students the language in context, helping students see how it looks in different scenarios and this has helped students gain an appreciation for a language and develop an interest for additional lessons.

As I oversee the ESL/ELL program, I also have to help teacher create alternative assessments for students and at the same time, I have to monitor student homework completion. When students have problems, I have to identify the problem and help find a solution.
Conversational German Tutoring
I have taught German for 11 years.
ESL/ESOL Tutoring
I have a master's degree in ESL, completed all the test prep for the state of Ohio in order to get the licensure and mentored new ELL teachers.
IELTS Tutoring
For one summer, I worked at an ELS testing center, which focused on the IELTS testing for students who wanted to attend Ohio State University or other nearby universities.
Praxis Tutoring
I have mentored teachers taking the Praxis and completed the Praxis test series.
Microsoft Word Tutoring
I have learned how to use Microsoft Word quite extensively because I make my own material for school lessons. After 11 years, I have familiarized myself with different versions and can help on a Mac or PC
