Fun Facts

Avid collector of eclectic socks; TED talks are my Netflix; Alumni of the Anderson High School Fruit and Grilled Cheese Club. In my time thusfar as a local Longhorn, I walked onto the UT Varsity Rowing team and helped light the tower orange with a Big 12 Championship. I am also currently training to bike to Alaska next summer and fundraising for cancer research with the Texas 4000 for Cancer team. (*note: Netflix is also my Netflix; you won’t meet a more dedicated Parks and Recreation fan.)

About Me

I am a current third-year Sustainability Studies and Chemical Engineering double major at The University of Texas at Austin. After undergrad, I hope to serve in Southeast Africa with the Peace Corps, working in sustainable international development to uplift communities. Additional education plans include either an MBA or Master in Public Affairs, as I one day wish to executive direct a non-profit.

Experience

As a former member of the National Honor Society, I volunteered my time to tutoring at least once per week as a high school upperclassman. I was a founding tutor of our school’s Writing Lab, and spend lunches helping students edit and revise their English assignments. Having reached the highest level of IB Chemistry, I was also the primary tutor for Pre-AP classes. After placing out of 8 hours of college Chemistry, among other subjects, I am well-versed at teaching college test prep.

Approach

My goal as a tutor is to find the individual learning style that is best suited for each student. I have had my fair share of teachers who present stock content to the class without offering further information. I am personally a hands-on, active learner, and strive to incorporate comprehensive methods into my teaching. I believe education should be interdisciplinary; I am not afraid to evoke the occasional metaphor to explain a math or science concept.

Algebra Tutoring

I took Accelerated Algebra I and II in eighth grade and 10th grade. I made high 'A's in the classes, and have since completed college math through Differential Equations.

AP English Tutoring

I took accelerated English all throughout high school, and scored a 5 on the AP language test my junior year. I have extended experience tutoring English through volunteering at our school's writing lab.

Chemistry Tutoring

After three years of high school advanced chemistry, I scored a 6 out of 7 on the world I.B. exam and placed out of 8 hours of college Chemistry. I have extensive one-on-one chemistry tutoring experience from high school, as I helped mentor a few younger students prepare for their end of year exams. Chemistry matters -- pun intended -- and it is my favorite subject to tutor. (And have you hear about Oxygen and Magnesium?? OMg.)

German Tutoring

I studied German from 6th grade through Senior year, and spent three weeks abroad in Koblenz, Germany practicing my language skills with a cultural exchange program.

Homework Coach Tutoring

Anyone who's been through school knows how tedious homework can sometimes be; often all it takes is a bit of support and guidance for students to stay on track and focused in their studies. I am a patient individual with experience coaching kids (albeit swimming) and love to help others succeed, especially in subjects they once struggled.

Micro-Economics Tutoring

Microecon is my favorite subject. I took the class last year at UT and made a high A in the class.
