About Me
When I am not tutoring math I teach Art at Prince Georges Community College where I have a reputation as a patient, fun, and innovative instructor. I am also an avid learner, with an education in several disciplines. I first studied Plant Science (A.A.S.) at SUNY, Morrisville and, then I attended University of Maryland University College, where I received a B.S. in Psychology. While attending University of Maryland at College Park, I earned a B.A. in Studio Art an an M.F.A. in Painting.
Experience
Seven years teaching drawing and painting at Prince Georges Community College has taught me how to clearly explain ideas, motivate students and create a supportive learning environment where students can flourish.
2 years ago I began using my teaching skills with math students at Greenbelt Cares' tutoring program. and loved the experience of helping students achieve success in school. Working at Frog Tutoring allows me to help even more students gain confidence in their math skills.
Approach
To peak the learner's interest I relate math problems to a person's interests and every day experiences. I might ask: what fraction of a pizza did you eat for lunch, or How would a change in slope will affect your bike ride? I encourage students to persist when they are having difficulty with a concept. By using multiple teaching tools and sources, such as common core, interactive websites, and texts I am able to vary tutoring sessions to best fit the student.
