Fun Facts

One of my favorite things to do is travel, but I have only done so on the North American continent -- which I would love to change soon! I love musical theater and performed in shows for seven years. In another life, I would move to New York and pursue a career on Broadway. I competed in debate and public speaking contests for TEN years (from 7th grade through my senior year in college), most recently finishing eleventh in the nation.

About Me

I am a first-year Master's student and Graduate Teaching Assistant at Texas Christian University, where I also earned my B.S., magna cum laude, in May 2017. I study, teach, and research interpersonal communication, a field in which I hope to earn my Ph.D. upon completing my studies at TCU. I hope to someday gain a tenure-track faculty position and teach and research in the communication field at a university.

Experience

As a Graduate Teaching Assistant at TCU, I serve as laboratory instructor of two sections of COMM 10123 (Communicating Effectively In Your Profession), comprised of a total of 50 college students. In this role, I serve as their primary contact, as the "lecture" component of the course is delivered online. I grade students' exams, assignments, and speeches, meet with them during office hours, and handle any other student issues. I also tutor TCU student-athletes at TCU on a weekly basis.

Approach

I pride myself in being able to meet students where they are in the learning process and strive to avoid a strict format for tutoring sessions. My techniques range from "free write" processes of memorization and information recall--a process I personally find useful and love to teach students--to verbal devices to help confirm and solidify knowledge in subject areas. I am, at my core, a problem solver. If learning is a problem, I want to help them tackle it head-on.

Communication Tutoring

I hold a B.S., magna cum laude, from TCU in Communication Studies, and I'm currently earning my Master of Science in the department, where I also teach two public speaking courses. Additionally, I competed in debate and public speaking contests for ten years, earning national and regional titles for my communication skills, and regularly judge speech and debate contests in the DFW area.

English Tutoring

I enjoy and am confident in teaching English, especially rhetoric, composition, and literature. I scored a perfect 6.0 on the writing section of the Graduate Record Exam. I have also won national awards for my research writing, and I am under review for publication at a major national journal for communication research. I receive "A" grades in two English courses at TCU and four Honors courses with heavy emphasis on rhetoric skills.

Political Science Tutoring

I graduated magna cum laude from Texas Christian University in May 2017 with a minor in Political Science. My GPA in the minor was 3.8. I took courses in advanced political theory, special topics in contemporary American politics, and and pursued specialized study in social movements and political activism.

Psychology Tutoring

I took two psychology courses (General Psychology and Psychology of Counseling) at TCU, in which I earned an "A" in both. I am extremely comfortable with terminology and concepts in general psychology as well, as much of the theory informs my research in Communication Studies, the field in which I am a graduate student.

Sociology Tutoring

As a 2017 graduate of TCU's John V. Roach Honors College, much of the lower-division curriculum is based around sociological theories and perspectives. I was required to take 15 hours in Honors-department courses, in which I earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, including in my Sociology of Education course.

Writing Tutoring

I enjoy and am confident in teaching writing. I scored a perfect 6.0 on the writing section of the Graduate Record Exam. I have also won national awards for my research writing, and I am under review for publication at a major national journal for communication research. In teaching public speaking at TCU, I have an extensive background in helping students write for targeted audiences as well.

Writing Advance Tutoring

I enjoy and am confident in teaching writing at a high level. I scored a perfect 6.0 (99th percentile) on the writing section of the Graduate Record Exam. I have also won national awards for my research writing, and I am under review for publication at a major national journal for communication research. In teaching public speaking at TCU, I have an extensive background in helping students write for targeted audiences as well.

Government Tutoring

I graduated magna cum laude from Texas Christian University in May 2017 with a minor in Political Science. My GPA in the minor was 3.8. I took courses in advanced political theory, special topics in contemporary American politics, and and pursued specialized study in social movements and political activism.

GRE Tutoring

I scored a perfect 6.0 on the GRE Writing section on my first attempt in December 2016, allowing me to be particularly helpful in this area based on my personal experience. I also teach college students on a weekly basis and understand how to best help them approach writing for a targeted audience (in this case, GRE graders). I am very comfortable teaching students the structure and outcomes GRE Writing graders hope to see in the essays.
