Fun Facts
I am a very friendly person who loves to play games. I am particularly good at backgammon, Chinese checkers, and cards. I am also a big fan of scrabble, 20 questions, and pictionary ( even though my artist ability isn't the best) In general, I like to interact with people in a non-competitive, fun filled manner.
About Me
I have been a substitute teacher for the past 7 years. Therefore, I am a very patient, flexible, and adaptable person with a lot of experience with students of all ages. I truly enjoy the challenge of teaching children, and watching them grow and accomplish their goals.
Experience
In addition to being a substitute teacher, I tutored a 5th grader last year, primarily in Language Arts. She was an ESL student, and we worked a lot on her reading ability, as well as her pronunciation and comprehension of words. We made a lot
of progress together, and I felt she had a better foundation for 6th
Approach
I feel that all kids should be able to learn at their own pace. I understand this is not always possible, as sometimes there are certain standards a student must meet. However, I try to encourage students to do the best they can, and put in the greatest effort, since we are all only capable of what we are able to do! I try to encourage kids to excel in the area's where they can excel.

I have helped many students to do their homework. In addition, when my own children were in elementary school, we always did homework together, right after school. I was very supportive of their educational needs.
Math Tutoring
I have always had a high aptitude for Math. I also have some "old school" tricks to share with kids on how to work with numbers, both in their heads, and on paper. I also value the exercises of times table as a building block for elementary Math.

Science Tutoring
I have taught Science many times as a Substitute Teacher, and I have engaged in many hands on projects with students. I also believe that the natural environment lends itself to the understanding of Science.
Social Studies Tutoring
I have executed many Social Studies lessons during my experience as a Substitute Teacher. I am very familiar with the history an chronological order of events in which major changes have taken place.
Study Skills Tutoring
I believe that the success of all studying and classwork is intertwined with organizational skills. If students organize themselves properly, they can be successful in both school and their future endeavors..
Writing Tutoring
I have experience working with a fifth grade ESL student. We worked on reading, writing and comprehension. I have a very strong understanding of proper grammar. I encourage students to utilize outlines in order to write successful papers.
