Fun Facts

I am a really big nerd. I love going to conventions such as Comic Con and San Japan. I can usually be seen cosplaying with my wife at cons. I enjoy gaming in all forms. Video games, board games, table top RPGs like Dungeons and Dragons. You name it and I probably enjoy it. I also really enjoy sports. I have played a variety of sports since I was a child and now enjoy watching football, basketball, and wrestling in my down times. I'm the oldest of two, have been married 2 years, and have a husky.

About Me

I am a former English teacher who is looking for a bit of a change. I love working with students and helping them realize their full potential or even discover a love of reading and/or writing. I will strive to help your student grow in their ELA skills as well as build confidence in their ability to read or write.

Experience

I feel like my knowledge of the English language and my deep desire for every student that I come in contact with to realize their greatest potential makes me a great tutor/teacher. Not only do I love teaching reading and writing but I also have a deep love for writing as well as reading when time allows. From Rowling to Tolkien to Martin to Shakespeare, I love the places that a good book can take you and the lessons that these authors have for their readers.

Approach

In my 3 1/2 years of teaching, I've met many different students with various learning styles. I do my best to get to know each student and their needs so that I can best assess their learning style. What works for one may not work for another. However my preferred method is finding something that my students relate to and use it as a stepping stone. Whether its pop culture or just their hobbies, I find a way to connect the concept to something that they understand.
