Fun Facts
I live in Chicago with one of my best friends. I love to garden and have had almost every kind of pet. I love the NBA and stand-up comedy. I was the head of Model UN and Mock Trial in HS and enjoy debate.
About Me
I was born abroad and have been lucky enough to travel to much of Europe as well as live in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. I completed research for my college thesis at the University of Loyola at Chicago and graduated Beloit College with a BS in Biochemistry, however I actually completed two theses courses in Anthroplogy and only one in Biological Chemistry.
Experience
I began tutoring in 2010 as a college student. I tutored for 3 years with Help Yourself and Upward Bound, state and nationally funded programs allowing me to work in local elementary and high school classrooms. Since graduationg, not only have I found, maintained, and grown my own book of students but I have worked for and with Varsity Tutors, Wyzant Tutoring, Pyramid Academy, and SAGA Innovations. The last of which I was privileged enough to work in CPS classrooms. I have 7 years experience.
Approach
I use an approachable, rigorous, and specialized approach. Understanding that each student, each child, is unique, I begin by assessing their learning style among three common types. Then I like to extrapolate baselines using standardized testing materials. Afterwards much of my style is based on temperature checks, communication with teachers, and questions. I am not a fan of rote memorization and regurgitation. I have a very question based style that leads students to their own answers.
