Fun Facts
I raised three wonderful young men who are married and have children of their own.
I love reading and learning new things all the time. I am passionate about sewing and quilting. You should see my beautiful yard. I also enjoy baking and cooking. We could sit in my backyard and enjoy some tea and freshly baked cookies. If you get cold, I have a quilt you can wrap up in.
About Me
I've enjoyed being a teacher and school counselor but the best experience I've ever had was being a mom. I have three wonderful sons who are adults with wives, jobs and children of their own now. I live in a darling house with my cute little dog Lucy. My yard is gorgeous every season and my sewing machine is always whirring along. The best part of my day is when I am working with a student. Later I relax with a good book. I really love movies but I hardly have time to go to the theater anymore.
Experience
I am a retired teacher and school counselor with a wealth of experience working with children to get them on the path to success. Also I have two Master degrees, one with a reading endorsement and the other in counseling and psychology. I taught for so many years and then retired. However, I missed the kids so I started tutoring. My students add so much joy to my life!
Approach
My first task when I start working with a student is for me to learn about how the child learns, what the student knows and what we are going to learn together. Working one on one with each student allows me to use the most effective approach with that person. Maybe we play a moving game, sing a song, draw pictures, or write on a dry erase board. I try to make a connection with what the student knows to the new concept. I really believe in connections and relevant short-cuts.

Anatomy Physiology I Tutoring
I've taught medical and anatomical terminology on the community college level. I helped my students learn Greek and Latin roots first which made pronouncing,spelling andmemorizing the terminology so much easier. I also had the responsibility of helping my youngest son during his first year in medical school during his anatomy and physiology studies. I am proud to say he is now a practicing physician at the University of Washington.
AP History Tutoring
I studied many history classes in college and have assisted many students pass their high school AP History classes. Much of the AP History classes is knowing how to write the essays and how to choose the best answers on the test. I teach my students test taking skills which transfer to other areas such as SAT and AP English. Student success is always my goal.
English Tutoring
"Why do I have to study English when it is the only language I've spoken my whole life?" As a teacher I have studied and taught English to all my students all my life, even students from China who are learning English for the first time. All my students read, write, and use English very successfully.
Geography Tutoring
Geography is the study of the places on our earth, Once again it is about making connections. I help my students be curious about our world so they can connect what they know with what they are learning.
