Fun Facts
I am fascinated by cars. I love learning about how they work. Eventually, I want to learn a little about fixing them so I won't have to pay a mechanic to do so! I also really love animals. I have had pets all my life. My current furry, feathered, and scaly friends include: Reggie, my dog, Watson and Crick, my parakeets, Ginger, my dove, and Lady Madonna, my lizard.
About Me
I am a senior at the City College of New York. I major in biology, and minor in secondary education. I have participated as both a "Partners for Change," and a CLUSTER fellow at CCNY. Additionally, I was awarded an Abby Duncan Brownfield Scholarship award. These honors were the result of my commitment to bringing about urban sustainability through education. In the future, I want to expand upon this work and eventually run a program devoted to environmental education.
During my time as an explainer at the New York Hall of Science, I worked closely with first grade students participating in the after-school program. I provided them with homework help and assisted in monitoring their weekly progress with assignments. As an explainer, I also worked to facilitate visitors' interpretation and understanding at the hands-on exhibits. This past summer, I worked at the American Museum of Natural History. There, I developed a unique tour incorporating several halls of the museum. I gave the tours to visiting camp groups ranging in age, background, and group size. I have also completed over 100 hours of fieldwork to supplement my education courses. During these fieldwork experiences, I provided students with one on one help, as well as assisted teachers.
As a FrogTutor, I would want to apply and develop the skills that I have acquired through both my teaching experiences, as well as my coursework in education. I want to serve as a personal mentor to students by using inquiry-based methods to help them the construct their own understandings of concepts. This will instill them with the confidence and independence that they need to excel when they are physically in the classroom. I aim to decipher the unique learning style of each student and tailor my methods in teaching accordingly. Picking up on the ways that learners process information, and tailoring my communication accordingly is something that will help me to help them participate in their learning processes.
