Fun Facts

My professional background is very practical. I work in the accounting field. However, culinary arts has always piqued my interest. Exploring different restaurants and cuisine throughout the Washington metropolitan area is a great passion.

About Me

I received my B.B.A. in Accounting from Howard University. I have over five years of experience in public accounting. While in college, I interned for two summers with a big four CPA firm, KPMG, assisting Senior Consultants in the Assurance, Tax and Consulting divisions. I also worked a year, while in college, with the Federal Bureau of Investigation in Washington, DC providing guided tours to public and private groups and presenting the Federal agents during the live firearms demonstration.

Experience

I mentored in the Capital Partners for Education (CPE) program lending guidance and support to college bound students in the District of maryland/columbia">columbia">maryland/columbia">Columbia’s private and charter high schools. Throughout college I tutored elementary school children through Howard University’s Center for the Education of Students Placed at Risk (CRESPAR) program which prepares lower performing students for the state-wide exam. In high school I taught basic sign language to hearing children.

Approach

I like to get an idea of the student's strengths and weaknesses early on and play to the student's strengths. I then develop methods to push in those areas that need improvement. I try to develop methods that are fun but don't discourage the student from wanting to try harder to improve in the subjects that he/she may find difficult. Continuously creating tools to keep the student motivated is very important.
