About Me
I come from a family that values education. My father was a very intelligent man and my mother taught for 31 years before retiring. I am happily married for the second time. I am blessed with 5 grown -up children in our blended family. They are all wildly successful, and I think I played a part in that. I enjoy working with my hands and relaxing with a good book or making crafts.
Experience
During my college years I had the opportunity to tutor as part of an after-school program in Mesa. I tutored and was in charge of a bi-lingual group of about 25 students grades K-6 with homework , daily outdoor activity and lunch each school day. I have most recently been a teacher for grades Kinder, 1st and 3rd as well as a substitute for all subjects from K-8. Working for frog tutoring allows me to reach students that may benefit more from a one to one learning.
Approach
My mother, especially, has been a lifelong mentor to me. I believe learning should be fun and I always show my students that I care about them. I have learned, that when students know they have someone on their side who believes they can succeed, then they will be motivated to learn. I have earned a Master's Degree in Early Childhood Education with honors

MastersChild Development Tutoring
As a student I earned my Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education with a 3.95 G.P.A.. As a mom, I used my knowledge of how children develop to teach my young children before entering kindergarten, and they are all highly successful adults now. As an Elementary School Teacher I continue to apply my knowledge of what I have learned in college.
Education Tutoring
As a student I studied both Elementary and Early Childhood Education. I worked diligently to earn a 3.95 G.P.A. for my Masters Degree of Early Childhood Education. I believe anything worth doing is worth doing well. My degree is an Education Degree and I think I did well.
Homework Coach Tutoring
In college I worked at an after-school program as a homework coach for K-6 grades. With my degree in Early Childhood Education, I know what questions to ask the student to prompt their thinking an find where they need teaching and coaching. I do not provide the answers for them, but rather help them learn to trust their own abilities with positive reinforcement and encouragement.
Math Tutoring
While substitute teaching these past two years I have had the opportunity to teach math classes for 6th 7th and 8th grade as well as younger groups of students. I realize that everyone learns differently and that some students may need extra help with the basics to move forward. I also know that some students may need the use of hands-on materials to help them envision math principles.
Middle School Math Tutoring
As a substitute teacher these past 2 years, I have been fortunate to teach in several middle school math classrooms. I have worked with students on all math topics at this level. Math subjects are built on a firm foundation of math skills and I can help find if there is a skill that may need more help as well as work on the desired topic to master.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I have taught reading comprehension in grades K-8. Different grades require different types of teaching. For example, in Kindergarten a student must first be able to read the story before comprehending what was read. Pictures can be clues. For older students vocabulary can be solved with context clues from the sentences read.
Study Skills Tutoring
As a former student myself, I learned to have good study skills. Organization, time-management, proper resources, a quiet study space, and dedicated time slot for study all will help. I am able to show your student how to achieve important skills to improve their studies.
Writing Tutoring
I have taken many classes and taught many classes in writing. I know I know the importance of brainstorming, rough drafts, editing, revisions and final drafts. I understand how to use a thesaurus as needed to improve a paper. As a former Kindergarten and 1st grade teacher, I understand the process younger students take to learn to write.
English Tutoring
With my degree in Early Childhood Education, I know that children first learn a language through the spoken word. I have much knowledge and experience teaching all aspects of English. Grade levels of English I have taught and tutored include K-8.
Elementary Math Tutoring
Many students do not see the need for math in everyday life. I am able to spark that understanding that math is used everyday and everywhere. I have taught K-8 math successfully using things of interest to the students.
