Fun Facts

I am an experienced immigrant! My family immigrated from Latvia to Israel when I was four years old and immigrated to the United State when I was twelve. Having spent my teenage and adult years in the Pacific Northwest, I now call this region my home. I embrace the outdoorsy culture and try to spend a large portion of my free time climbing mountains, hiking the forest trails, skiing in the winter and rock climbing in the summer. I also enjoying spending time learning to cook new tasty meals!

About Me

I studied chemistry and chemical engineering in Oregon State University where I graduated with distinction of summa cum laude. I then worked as a process engineer in Portland for two years before deciding to go to graduate school. Earlier this summer I completed my PhD in chemical engineering in washington">University of Washington. At the end of my degree I discovered a new passion: programming and data science. I now want to spend some time and retrain myself to be a data scientist.

Experience

I had worked as a supplemental instructor for three years while an undergraduate student at Oregon State University. My role was to prepare material and lead organized study tables of 5-10 students. I focused on differential and integral calculus where I deliberately focused on the most important points that were covered in lecture and provided additional examples and exercises.

Approach

Contemporary education does not lack resources for even the most advanced subjects. In my view, the most important educational element is to understand how to teach yourself with the available resources. It takes some practice and confidence to get to this point. As a tutor my role is to serve as a guide to help students learn how to navigate to the answer - not a porter to carry a student to the answers. My role is to help identify gaps in understanding and point the student in that direction.
