Fun Facts

I love American folk music. I especially enjoy old-time, bluegrass, and country music played with an acoustic ensemble. I am primarily a fiddle player, but I enjoy singing, playing the guitar and bass, and learning how to play the banjo. When I'm not playing music or in school, I like to take my puppy, Charlie, on hikes.

About Me

I have bachelor's degrees in Environmental Engineering and Molecular & Cellular Biology from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. I earned them in 2011. Currently, I am working as a violin maker.

Experience

For the past two years, I have worked for the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) managing customers on an IT project with the goal of migrating all appropriate USGS applications to cloud infrastructure. Before that, taught music for two years in private lessons, as well as elementary and middle after-school programs. I have also done entry level civil engineering work, collected data for a regional economic development strategy, and researched virus reduction in potable water.

Approach

Math, chemistry, and physics did not always come easy for me. As a child, I wondered at the students for whom these subjects came so effortlessly. But I needed these subjects as tools to get me where I wanted to go. So, out of necessity, I learned to become methodical, thorough, and disciplined. These skills gave me the ability to learn, and I realized that any subject can be handled with the correct approach. I can help you learn a subject and become self-assured in your abilities.
