Fun Facts
I have played and coached tennis, and it is definitely my favorite sport to play. My favorite sport to watch is college football, specifically the Nebraska Huskers (I grew up in Omaha), TCU, and Notre Dame. I'm the middle child of three. I originally came to TCU to study musical theatre and am classically trained in classical voice such as opera and Broadway styles. Also, I took classical piano pedagogy in the SMU school of music for 8 years, and I like to write liturgical music in my free time.
About Me
I am a senior Secondary Education/English double major at TCU. I've been on the College of Education Dean's list for the past two years, and when I graduate, I will be studying for my Masters degree at TCU in the accelerated Masters program. After that, I would like to teach high school English, emphasizing SAT/ACT prep in my lessons. Along with required curriculum, I find it important to set my students up for success in the future by preparing them for these norm-based tests.
Experience
As an Education major, I have had the opportunity to teach students of all ages, nationalities, and with many different obstacles like language barriers and learning differences. This semester I am working at the International Newcomer Academy and am gaining experience in teaching language through content. I am used to and have a passion for helping students develop mastery of curriculum and become motivated to become life-long learners.
Approach
I have experienced plenty of teachers who do not explain their expectations well, and when I turn in assignments I was penalized for not meeting expectations. As a teacher I plan to make my expectations clear and motivate my students by making material both rigorous and relevant. With new skills and knowledge, I believe it benefits students to have clear criteria for success, almost like a checklist they can complete to stay organized and on task.

Secondary Education Studies
Education Tutoring
As a senior Dean's List Secondary Education student already enrolled in graduate-level classes, I have taken all classes required for an Bachelors in Education. I have knowledge in areas such as Special Education, Motivating and Managing students in a classroom, Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS), educational psychology, and field experience in a variety of grades and socioeconomic status levels.
English Tutoring
As an English major at TCU I have completed all courses necessary to obtain a BA in English, including many eras of literature, poetry, literary theory, and writing. I have tutored and taught English in a variety of settings, including in homes and at schools in front of classes of 30+ students.
ESL Tutoring
As an Education major, when it comes to ESL I tend to direct my focus to teaching language through content. I strive to make content both challenging and meaningful to keep interest and motivation high on the part of the student. I have taken numerous classes on ESL during my college career and am currently enrolled in three. I am involved in fieldwork at the International Newcomer Academy and am gaining experience in teaching students from a variety of backgrounds.
AP English Tutoring
As an English major at TCU I have completed all courses necessary to obtain a BA in English, including many eras of literature, poetry, literary theory, and writing. I have tutored and taught English in a variety of settings, including in homes and at schools in front of classes of 30+ students.
Piano Tutoring
I took 8 years of classical piano pedagogy at the SMU school of music. I can play baroque, classical, jazz, and many other styles of piano music.
Voice (Music) Tutoring
I took voice lessons from 6th grade until recently in college. I started with an SMU grad student and studied with a TCU vocal performance faculty member my freshman year of high school until two years ago. Now I enjoy singing at weddings and other events, and at church on Sundays in a choir.
Conversational Spanish Tutoring
I took classes up to Spanish 4 in high school and have experience working with students whose first language is Spanish. I have had plenty of opportunities to use and practice my own Spanish skills in daily life and love having the ability to carry on conversations with many different people.
