Fun Facts
I enjoy giving. In fact, not only on other people's birthdays, but on my own birthdays as well, I give gifts to people I care about to show my appreciation for them. I have been known to show up with cookies and brownies for my students so that they can celebrate my birthday with me.
About Me
I am a Reed College graduate in physics who has been accepted twice into two different Stanford University Ph.D programs: Applied Physics, and Civil and Environmental Engineering. Aside from tutoring, what I would most like to do is to work on environmental topics. I have ideas on reversing global warming, ensuring we never run out of clean water, and creating a massive program in recycling so that we eradicate the whole notion of "garbage."
Experience
I have always enjoyed teaching, but I really began a formal endeavor in it when I was in college and was teaching 4th graders topics in biology and physics. After graduating from college, I have worked with many students, both individually and in groups, online and in-person. In my teaching, I always work to develop a rapport with my students, and work harder to make sure that the material I present for my students makes the material easier than more difficult and obscure.
Approach
My approach is one of perseverance and patience. I believe that a topic may need to be considered in more ways than one, and that it should be seen in different angles before it may be fully understood. Sometimes, it may take learning the material again and again to completely get it. While the student continues to persevere towards a better understanding of the subject, I am patiently waiting as I encourage the student to feel rewarded the closer he gets to understanding

Physics I Tutoring
I was a physics tutor at the Reed College Science Center where I was the only physics tutor volunteering my time twice a week.
Pre Calculus Tutoring
No Pre-Calc in my college
Algebra Tutoring
Algebra is probably the most important math in all of a student's high school life and onward. Without algebra, students will not be able to continue any course involving equations. I tutor Algebra almost exclusively to students in high school online. I tutor about 10 students a week taking up 5 hours a week to supplement their knowledge from class. This extra help goes a long way to those struggling in the class.
Algebra II Tutoring
I recognize Alg2 is the hardest math class a student can take in high school. Because this is the hardest math, it is easy for a student to get lost in the math and even strong students may have a difficult time. I am currently tutoring Alg2 to 3 students in-person and 2 students online, and their progress is increasing with the added help from tutoring.
Physics Tutoring
Physics being my major, I still recognize it as one of the most difficult classes a student can take in high school and one that a student may not get right away. Physics is intensely based on algebra and some calculus. Physics is difficult because it can be intuitive at times, but it is more often non-intuitive. I currently tutor 2 students in high school physics and have tutored several students in Physics AP 1 in the past and I have been able to express with words and equations physics to work in terms of the world in motion.
Pre Algebra Tutoring
Pre-algebra is crucial to a student's ability to succeed in algebra. Any material before algebra to be pre-algebra. I tutor students online in the 6th grade who are getting ready to learn algebra by the 8th grade. The students are now learning fractions. This alone is important if students are going to learn how fractions are related to division and how to divide in an equation.
Homework Coach Tutoring
Good knowledge of how to help in homework
Study Skills Tutoring
Study skills is crucial to have in order to learn efficiently. I can help tutor study skills.
Writing Tutoring
In writing, I helped several people get into a better college than they otherwise would have. I can help introduce essay writing to students in this age group in a systematic way so that they know how to begin writing either creatively, or in an essay format.
Elementary Math Tutoring
I teach mostly 6th graders in elementary math and have done so in-person and online. This age group is harder to keep focused, but showing compassion and a mixture of levity and seriousness allow them to feel comfortable learning. If students in this age need help in math, it is important that they get it so that when it comes time for much more advanced mathematics, they can follow along.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
In reading comprehension, my approach to making sure that students understood what they were reading is to read a passage together, and then reiterate in different words what is read. When they answer incorrectly and when it is clear they do not comprehend, I try to find out why with questions for the student to be asked in a Socratic style.
GRE Tutoring
I have taken the GRE more than once when the GRE was first taken out of 1600 total points and when the GRE became a total of 170 each in the verbal and the quantitative. In both subject areas, I have scored above a 90% and I have a strategy for acing the GRE.
