Fun Facts
Innately from a child, I have always been drawn to other cultures, and I knew that my line of work would be in a diverse arena. Throughout my life, there have been many events that have further driven my passion for global socioeconomic development. Traveling and living in numerous states, in conjunction with spending three years abroad as a military dependent, student, and employee in Europe was the catalyst that brought further clarity to my intuition.
About Me
Hi! I am a graduating senior at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am majoring in International Studies with a concentration in Global Socioeconomic Development. I actually want to go back to school for nursing, and merge my two degrees together to help people live healthier lives across the globe!
Experience
I have worked with a variety of students to include school age since I was 15 years old. I've worked as a paid tutor, but my passion is so strong for the academic success of others, that I've even volunteered for numerous hours as a tutor/assistant teacher. I've volunteered with Virginia Commonwealth University ESL students, Army school age services students, and inner city Richmond elementary students just to name a few of my experiences.
Approach
I believe that every student has a unique learning style and that it is my duty to identify and implement that style accordingly. Through experience I've also learned that when we have great memories associated with a learning experience, we tend to retain the information better. So, enjoyment, excitement and adaptability are key aspects to my approach with helping students achieve their best academic endeavors!

International Studies: Global Socioeconomic Development
Anatomy Physiology I Tutoring
I have taken Anatomy and Physiology 1 and 2 at John Tyler Community College, successfully passing it! These classes consisted of two rigorous 5 week courses for each section, and it was the first time this college had ever taught the course in this manner. It was VERY intense, but with hard work and much study, I was successful and learned so much!
English Tutoring
I have always excelled in English, even from my primary school years. I have taken AP English in high school and numerous English classes in college, successfully passing them all.
ESL Tutoring
I have a deep passion to work with those trying to learn English as a second language. At VCU, I signed up for a program called conversation partners, which is a program that pairs native English speakers with international students learning English. I chose to be paired with someone with a low English proficiency level, because I wanted the challenge, and she is actually my best friend to this day! Her English and comprehension has definitely improved, and she has excelled it to university level English classes!
International Studies Tutoring
My major is at VCU is International Studies, and I have a great passion for educating others on this subject matter. Just as me a question about it, and I'll be sure to answer it, even if I have to do research and get back to you!
Political Science Tutoring
Quite a bit of my major includes political science. I've taken over 20 credits in various political science classes and I enjoy learning and talking about it.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
Reading comprehension was a subject that I've always excelled in, even in primary school years. I have the patience to work with those who may have trouble comprehending certain texts, and would be delighted to help improve those skills!
Religion Tutoring
I actually have enough credits for a minor in religious studies, but because of the curriculum that I developed for my unique degree plan, I was unable to officially fulfill that endeavor. I have a great deal of knowledge concerning other religions, and I have the correct sources to refer to if there is something that I don't know.
Spanish I Tutoring
I took four years of Spanish in high school and I tested out of two semesters of Spanish for college. I have an undergraduate certification in Spanish in Business and the Professions, as well as an Associate Degree concentrated in Spanish foreign language studies.
Study Skills Tutoring
Having the patience and discipline to study may be the greatest challenge for many of us. I can identify the strong points in learning styles, and help implement them in study skills.
Writing Tutoring
Writing has never been a passion of mine, but I do it well. Political science requires an extensive amount of writing, and I have improved with my skills simply by doing it so much. I understand grammar rules, spelling and punctuation well. Generally speaking, I've always done well on writing assignments.
