Fun Facts
Hello, my name is Elizabeth Friedman and I'm a junior at Whitman College. I have tutored and babysat a ton of kids ages 2 and up. I was a Big Sister in the Big Brother Big Sister program to kids ages 10-13. I am a huge lover of dogs, reading, and the great outdoors. I just spent 3 months in Ireland au pairing for children ages 3, 5, and 8.
About Me
I study Political Science and Race and Ethnic Studies at Whitman College. I'm currently taking a year off from school to work. My GPA is 3.89. I was selected to deliver a paper to the National Political Science Honor Society as the only junior member for the year 2014-2015.
Experience
Throughout high school and college, I've earned massive experience tutoring students ages 5-18. I've spent well over a thousand hours helping students through reading, writing, and early math, primarily .I love helping students understand their coursework better and hopefully have fun doing it.
Approach
I had significant problems learning math throughout my education and had a tutor help me most of the way. She taught me the skills required in a new way that was both informative and fun. I eventually got over my aversion to math and didn't need her help. I strive to help my students learn the school work while having a good time. I strongly believe homework doesn't need to be excruciating--for kids or parents.

English Tutoring
English is my best subject. I am an avid reader and writer in my spare time, and have always excelled on writing assignments all through advanced college courses.
International Studies Tutoring
I've spent a significant amount of time studying political science and international studies. I've taken multiple difficult, graduate level courses in the subject and received high marks.
Literature Tutoring
As a lifelong avid reader, I'm a huge fan of studying literature. I excel in reading, and spend a decent amount of time reading for the sake of learning.
Political Science Tutoring
As a political science major and avid news consumer, I am wholly confident that I can face any challenge offered by political science courses. I have a high gpa in my major, and pride myself on understanding it thoroughly.
Psychology Tutoring
Psychology is a personal passion of mine. I love learning how the mind works and interacts with different stimulus. I have taken several psychology courses and read many books on the subject.
Reading Comprehension Tutoring
I typically try to read about a book a week. I love to read, and have accumulated dozens of hours helping students ages 8-17 learn how to read and understand vocabulary.
Writing Tutoring
As a student, I have always favored classes that were writing intensive because it is one of my strengths. I have experience writing, editing, and proofreading.
Algebra Tutoring
Algebra was incredibly difficult for me when I took the course in high school. I have since taken the class again and done profoundly better after finding ways to study and learn that suited me. I'd be thrilled to help someone do the same.
AP History Tutoring
I am a bit of a history nerd, and received A grades all throughout high school and college history courses. Some of these courses were advanced and meant for graduate students. I'm confident I can help any student excel in history.
Arts Tutoring
I used to work at an arts and crafts store part time and since developed a passion for the arts. I built on this with community school classes and trial and error. I have not tutored in this subject, but am confident I can tackle any arts related issues with a strong skill set and background in tutoring.
Geography Tutoring
I love geography and even majored in the subject for a short time during college. I strain to teach geography with fun and creative tactics that helps the information stick, while the student has a good time.

As someone with a lifelong interest in government and several internships with Senator Wyden under my belt, I am confident I have everything required to be an excellent government tutor.
