Fun Facts
I truly enjoy pretty much any area of science or math! I love insects and spiders especially, and work at an aquarium where I get to work hands on with them every day! I have a beautiful daughter and strive to get her as interested in nature and science as I am. I do love spending lots of time outdoors hiking or exploring, but true to my nerdy side, I love superheroes and sci-fi movies with a passion.
About Me
I am a graduate of Cornell University where I majored in Entomology, Plant Sciences, Biostatistics (Statistical Genomics and Genetics), and Neurobiology and Behavior. I did research on magnetoreception in animals, the ability of animals to use the Earth's magnetic field to navigate. Now, I am the Curator of Entomology at the Long Island Aquarium on Long Island in New York. I hope to one day return to graduate school to continue research.
Experience
I've been tutoring students from virtually all grade levels since my sophomore year in high school, so I have more than 12 years experience teaching students. I had the opportunity to help teach a college precalculus course at Cornell, and had a number of teaching assistant positions in various biology courses. Furthermore, I've been working as an educator in places like the American Museum of Natural History, Sweetbriar Nature Center and the Long Island Aquarium since I was 12.
Approach
Throughout school, I had the opportunity to take a diverse number of classes and observe the difficulties, questions, and issues that normally cause students to struggle. I like to take difficult concepts that students normally find abstract and clearly indicate where and why these concepts happen, and draw parallels to a typical student's everyday life. I go above and beyond to make sure my students truly understand these concepts and will mold my style of teaching to fit the student.

Biochemistry Tutoring
I aced all chemistry-related courses from AP Chemistry to organic chemistry to biochemistry. Furthermore, I took and aced genetics and application courses, such as chemical ecology, relating to how chemicals fit into ecological relationships. I believe a tutor in these areas needs to master the fundamentals, but more importantly understand how the fundamentals fit into the "real" world, so that students will understand the importance of learning them.
Biology I Tutoring
I am a practicing, professional biologist, and the basics of introductory biology are second-nature to me. I can easily guide virtually any level of student through an introductory biology course and relate real-world examples to aid them in the process.

Calculus I Tutoring
Though I struggled in math initially in high school, I found a way to understand it in the context of my interests. Now, I can safely say that I have mastered college level calculus, algebra, and trigonometry. To reach students struggling with math, I feel that it is critical to ground the abstract concepts of mathematics in physical or real world setting. I was able to get a 5 on my AP in high school and was able to perform well in applied mechanics courses in college. I have a solid understanding of the fundamentals of mathematics. Furthermore, I taught a precalculus class with a member of the math department for 2 years while an undergrad.

Writing Tutoring
I feel that writing is extremely important for any professional, regardless of the line of work. AS students progress in their professional careers, it is imperative that they understand how to write eloquently and with purpose. Writing professionally, creatively, or to simply communicate ideas is second-nature to me. I write in my spare time and take great time to make sure that every paper I turn out is as polished as can be. I try to convey this same review process to students.
