Fun Facts
I am on a mission to be the best possible version of myself, and I tutor to help others find the best versions of themselves. I studied abroad for a semester in France when I was in college. I would love to go on safari. Because I have a casual but enduring interest in astronomy, the total solar eclipse was huge fun for me. My sister and I are training to do a triathlon. And one of these days, I'm going to be good at the waltz.
About Me
I am a graduate student at the miami">University of Miami getting my Master of Science in Public Health. I went to Yale for college and to the pittsburgh">University of Pittsburgh for medical school.
Experience
I have several years of experience as an MCAT instructor and private MCAT tutor for a test prep company, and I find the most satisfaction in private tutoring. I like being able to focus on an individual student's progress and see him or her improve. I have tutored students from elementary school all the way up to college and MCAT preparation. I've had good teachers in my life. I enjoy being that good teacher for someone else.
Approach
All that is needed to learn is a good teacher and a willing student. I know that people are intimidated by math and science. People believe that they're just not "a science person." After that, they avoid math and science and, by doing so, never get the chance to practice and get better. Anyone can learn this stuff, and I like to help students be confident in their ability to learn it. I love to be the reason for that "Ah-hah!" moment in my clients' faces.

MastersAnatomy Physiology I Tutoring
I’ve taken Anatomy twice, once in college and again in medical school. My middle name should be mnemonics. I’ve aced my medical school physiology courses and still find wonder in the workings of the human body. I tell my students that all the memorization is a necessary first step to appreciate the wonder.

Biochemistry Tutoring
I took biochemistry in college and again in medical school. My college course taught me the most and made me appreciate the importance of asking good questions. If you’re asking questions, that means you’re thinking about and engaging with the material and filling in the gaps in your learning. I love tutoring the subject, since it literally is the foundation for all of biology.
Biology I Tutoring
My college degree is in biology, so I have great affinity for and experience with biology. It is my favorite science, so I was happy to take the many courses in advanced biology that were required for my major. But my experience tutoring biology has helped me understand that the same concepts that underlie an introductory biology course are used repeatedly in the high-level biology courses, too. Because I know how important the basic principles are, I love and have gotten very good at explaining them to students.

Chemistry I Tutoring
This course was the first of my three years of college chemistry (this general chemistry, organic chemistry, and biochemistry). I got good grades, and the way my chemistry professor taught us to think about and solve problems have served me well in all the other science classes I’ve ever taken, including the ones outside of chemistry. I pass on this approach to problem solving (like the importance of always writing down your units!) to my students. This way, they have not just facts and knowledge, but also problem-solving tools that they can use during their exams and for the rest of their lives.

Organic Chemistry I Tutoring
I got straight A’s in both semesters of organic chemistry, and it was my second proudest college moment, after getting in to Yale in the first place. I knew that I truly understood the material when I could read the ingredients on shampoo bottles and think, “I know exactly what this is. In fact, I can draw that molecules structure.” Memorization looms large in this subject, too, but underlies the fun of it. It is also hugely useful, as biochemistry is only organic chemistry applied to living systems.

Algebra Tutoring
I was always that kid that got an A in math, liked math, and helped others with math in high school. I have taken math up to and including college calculus and statistics (including Algebra in high school) because it was required and frequently useful in my biology major and master's courses. I have always retained my awareness that math is difficult and intimidating for many students. I like to show my students the usefulness and fun of math. I love trotting out real-word examples to answer the eternal question: “When am I ever going to use this?” With motivation and practice, their confidence and their grades improve.

AP Chemistry Tutoring
I got an A in this class and a 5 on my AP exam. I was very glad to have learned chemistry so well in high school. That understanding helped me get a good grade in the college general chemistry course at Yale that was required for my biology major and gave me a good foundation for the other chemistry classes I had to take in college and in medical school. My most recent tutoring client hired me for help with AP Chemistry, so I have recent experience in teaching this subject to teenagers.
AP Physics Tutoring
Before I finally understood well, I struggled, which is why I’m so good at teaching it now. I remember why and how students fail to grasp certain hard-to-grasp concepts. I have multiple approaches to explain, demonstrate, clarify, and express the physics principle until my student understands. It’s the least favorite science for many students, so it’s where am the most useful to them.
Biology Tutoring
I got an A in this class and a 5 on my AP exam. I was very glad to have learned biology so well in high school. That understanding qualified me to skip the introductory college biology course at Yale and get good grades in the advanced biology courses required for my biology major. It’s also one of my favorite subjects to teach and my favorite to learn more about.

Math Tutoring
I have always liked math and been good at math. I had to take math in college all the way up to statistics and 2 semesters of calculus to meet premed requirements. I know that many kids fear math and avoid it. This avoidance behavior deprives them of opportunities to practice math, so that can’t become better and eventually get good at doing math. That is why I like to teach high school students math. I know how important it is to build a student’s confidence in their own ability to do math well. I can help them develop that sense of confidence, despite any past difficulties. Even if they never love math, I can help them see that math is not something for other, more talented “math people;” math is for them and is something that they can do.

Pre Algebra Tutoring
I was always that kid that got an A in math, liked math, and helped others with math in high school. I have taken math up to and including college calculus and statistics (including Pre-Algebra in high school) because it was required and frequently useful in my biology major and master's courses. I have always retained my awareness that math is difficult and intimidating for many students. I like to show my students the usefulness and fun of math. I love trotting out real-word examples to answer the eternal question: “When am I ever going to use this?” With motivation and practice, their confidence and their grades improve.

Science Tutoring
I got all As in Earth & Space Science, AP Biology, Chemistry, and Physics in high school. I was a biology major at Yale and went to medical school. Not only have I mastered the high school level of these subjects, I love science. I appreciate how confidence in one’s own ability to understand science prepares students for our modern world. I also know how fear of science and lack of understanding of science puts people at a disadvantage. That’s why, in a world that surrounds us with technology (electricity, safe surgery, combustion engines, plane travel, weather forecasting, and the internet), I love teaching science most of all.
Middle School Math Tutoring
I have always liked math and been good at math. I know that many kids fear it and avoid it. This avoidance behavior deprives them of opportunities to practice math, so that can’t become better and eventually get good at doing math. That is why I like to teach middle school students math. Microbiology Tutoring
I took microbiology in college as part of my major and again in medical school. I found it to be the single most practical course I took in medical school, other than anatomy. I love it, and I pass on my enthusiasm to my students. For example, microbiology is how we know which antibiotic to prescribe for an infection a patient visits the doctor for. You can do and know so much from so little concrete information. That is what makes microbiology so cool and what drives my enthusiasm to teach this subject to students.
MCAT Tutoring
At Yale, I took all my premed courses (general chemistry, organic chemistry, biology, physics, and biochemistry) along with courses in English, statistics, and the social sciences. This helped me to score in the 90th percentile of all test takers the year that I took the MCAT. I've taught and tutored the MCAT for 2 years, and my goal is to have my students duplicate my experience with the MCAT: one and done. Get an awesome score the one and only time you take this expensive test.
