Fun Facts

I spent most of my childhood growing up in San Francisco; because of this I have grown to love the many cultural experiences that accompany the diverse Bay Area. I kept busy in High school as an elementary tutor and junior naturalist through my High school’s Girl Service Society and participating in various academic clubs, orchestra and athletic teams. I was also a docent for the S F Children’s Zoo during the weekends.I still play the violin, guitar, some piano and just started Taiko drums.

About Me

I'm a UC Davis graduate who I volunteered at my children’s elementary school as a music and art teacher, then became a hands- on science lab teacher. I pursued my credential at Holy Names College student teaching in Oakland.I have been a public school teacher for 15 years. I enjoy working with people and helping them build their confidence and skills. I strive to build rapport with my students communicating with them as well as their parents about their goals. Setting goals is a must.

Experience

I worked in the Livermore School District for 13 years teaching Spanish 1A and 1B, English as a second language, History, and English to 6th and 7th graders. I also taught an after school reading and math intervention class and a cooking and sewing class. Last year, I taught Algebra, math, and science to 8th graders and am currently teaching 6th grade math and science. My elective classes included an introduction to Spanish and Health. Last summer I attended Stanford to study Nanotechnology,

Approach

My tutoring approach was influenced partially from my 86 year old mother who has been my inspiration as she immerses herself in books and has taught herself seven languages as one of her hobbies. The thing is, that you are never to old to enjoy learning. I have a nurturing and empathetic approach wanting the best for their success. As a tutor, I observe and assess my student’s skills to tailor a healthy tutoring relationship. It is important to know what motivates each student.

Arts Tutoring

I have taught art as an elective class for several years in elementary and middle schools because I enjoy drawing and creating sketches of my favorite animals. I am experienced with the basic elements of art and have created a curriculum that guides my students through the process of learning them. I use mixed media in an effort that will support the exploration of the student’s own interests.
