Fun Facts
I adore plants. I treat them with a great amount of respect. As a hobbyist botanist, I know nearly all the edible plants of the Pacific Northwest. In my spare time I play collaborative storytelling games with friends. Though I have terrible aim, I practice making and using cloth slings in the Egyptian style.
About Me
I am a Biology major at Portland State University. I've been tutoring fellow students in Chemistry and Calculus, which are my favorite subjects to study, and I've also taken part in a creative writing group that practices our storytelling.
I'd like to finish up school with published stories and enough experience to start my career in Biotech engineering.
Experience
I've spent the last three summers working with Trackers Earth, a summer camp for children. There we teach students to make fire, carve with knives, and to respectfully interact with the natural world around us.
During high school I taught in our churches Sunday school weekly. I also took part in a theatre camp for gradeschoolers to write and put on their own shows.
I've found that I need to be a part of the development of others to feel like I'm making a difference in the world.
Approach
Questions are key.
If I could teach one thing to a student, It would be to question effectively.
Instead of answering a student directly, I always lead them to finding the answer on their own. It empowers a student to learn that they have all they need already.
