Fun Facts

I read and run avidly, and enjoy listening to country music and talking with friends. I'm in the market for a new hobby; two considerations are pool-sharking and pedal steel guitar. In college, I lived for a semester in Chile and Argentina, and I would love to move back to South America one day.

About Me

I am a 2010 graduate of Sewanee: The University of the South. I graduated magna cum laude with honors and distinction in Philosophy. My freshman year at Sewanee I played on the university's basketball team and was selected to the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll. I graduated with a 3.55 GPA, was continuously on the Dean's List from 2008-2010, and I was a member of the academic honor society at Sewanee since my sophomore year. I am currently applying to graduate programs in Philosophy.

Throughout college I was a middle school basketball coach at St. Andrews School in Sewanee, TN. Awaiting departure for my study abroad program, I volunteered for a austin">tutoring and after-school program serving indigent elementary school students in Waco, TX. Immediately after graduating from college, I taught a philosophy course and a writing course at Rapoport Academy Public High School in Waco, TX. When I worked as a project assistant at a law firm in Washington, D.C., I participated in a austin">tutoring program offered to students of Thurgood Marshall Academy in Southeast D.C.

Throughout school, the subjects that I've found most interesting have been taught by instructors who have an obvious passion for their subject. I've come to understand that all academic subjects have the potential to be interesting, if they're presented in the right light. I've also found that, generally, the more interested a person is in a subject, the better they perform in that subject. My approach to austin">tutoring aims to show the student what is compelling about the subject that they're studying, and to give them a clear, structured way to to approach the subject with facility and eagerness.
