About Me
I am a Ph.D student in Biomathematics at North Carolina State University (NCSU). My Bachelors is in Mathematics from the maryland">University of Maryland Baltimore County (UMBC). My research is in mathematical epidemiology, with a focus on sexually transmitted infections. My ultimate goal is to work as a mathematical epidemiologist while also working in outreach to bring mathematical enthusiasm to minority groups.
Experience
In high school, I tutored both middle and high school math. In college, I worked in the Math Gym, a new tutoring center designed to improve performance in introductory math courses, for all four years of my undergraduate career. I was also a teaching assistant for Calculus I and II, and ran a discussion of 30-60 students per semester, ran exam review sessions, and also lectured when the professor was absent. At NCSU, I work as a mathematics and statistics tutor for the athletic department.
Approach
My tutoring style is based on inquiry based learning, allowing my students to come to conclusions on their own after being asked a series of leading questions rather than being presented with answers and methods outright. This helps cement the knowledge in the head of the student and improves problem solving and thinking skills. This helps instill mathematical confidence, as many students I have worked with experience anxiety when doing math problems.

PhdCalculus I Tutoring
I have been a teaching assistant for this course twice, with my students routinely having a better test performance than others in the course. My degree is in mathematics so I have used the knowledge from this course throughout my undergraduate and graduate careers. I also received an A when taking this course.
Calculus 2 Tutoring
I have been a teaching assistant for this course twice, with my students routinely having a better test performance. My degree is in mathematics so I have used the knowledge from this course throughout my undergraduate and graduate careers. I also received an A when taking this course.
College Algebra Tutoring
I often teach algebra foundations in calculus courses. Many calculus students are weak in algebra skills. I have tutored this material extensively and am aware of the common pitfalls with these topics.
Computer Programming Tutoring
I have taken three computer science classes in college, and have done well in all of them. I use programming almost every day in my research and my courses. I am most comfortable with Matlab, R, and Python but also have experience with Java and C.
Elementary Statistics Tutoring
I have tutored elementary statistics for a year at NCSU. I also have taken extensive statistics coursework at the graduate level. All of the foundations are the same and my students have appreciated how well I explain the material by drawing on their own interests and understandings, since data can come from anywhere.
Math Tutoring
As a previous mathematics major, I have a high level of mathematical maturity. I am able to tutor most mathematics courses up to Calculus II, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. I excelled in these courses and have been able to reinforce this material in my advanced courses.
Math Advance Tutoring
As a previous mathematics major, I have a high level of mathematical maturity. I am able to tutor some advanced mathematics courses, such as introductory analysis, numerical analysis, and advanced differential equations (dynamical systems). As my electives in college were more on the applied side, I am unable to tutor subjects such as modern algebra, number theory, and advanced analysis.
Pre Calculus Tutoring
I have been a tutor for this course for several years. My degree is in mathematics so I have used the knowledge from this course throughout my undergraduate and graduate careers. This is the one of the foundations of calculus, so I always ensure my students have a strong background in this material.
Algebra Tutoring
As a mathematics major, the material from this course was fundamental to my degree. I have tutored high school students in this course before, and received an A when taking this course. I emphasize the importance of the material to everyday situations, since many students struggle with understanding "When will I ever use this?"
Algebra II Tutoring
As a mathematics major, the material from this course was fundamental to my degree. I have tutored high school students in this course before, and received an A when taking this course. I emphasize the importance of the material to everyday situations, since many students struggle with understanding "When will I ever use this?"
AP Statistics Tutoring
As a graduate student who does frequent data analysis and parameter estimation, the material from this course was fundamental to my degree. I have tutored high school students in this course before, and received an A when taking the university equivalent of this course.
Calculus Tutoring
As a mathematics major, the material from this course was fundamental to my degree. I have tutored high school students in this course before, and received an A when taking this course. I emphasize the importance of the material to everyday situations, since many students struggle with understanding "When will I ever use this?"
Calculus AP Tutoring
As a mathematics major, the material from this course was fundamental to my degree. I have tutored high school students in this course before, and received an A when taking this course. I also received a 5 on the AP test for this course.
Pre Algebra Tutoring
As a mathematics major, the material from this course was fundamental to my degree. I have tutored high school students in this course before, and received an A when taking this course. I emphasize the importance of the material to everyday situations, since many students struggle with understanding "When will I ever use this?"
SAT Math Tutoring
I have worked with students on both SAT and ACT prep for the mathematics portion. Many of the skills needed come from courses that students have taken, but the importance is ensuring that they have the knowledge but also the speed to be able to complete questions in a timely manner.

I emphasize the importance of the material to everyday situations, since many students struggle with understanding "When will I ever use this?"
Middle School Math Tutoring
I have worked with middle school students in mathematics courses several times, often providing homework assistance and relating problems to real world situations that they will understand. Most of this material is a foundation to my work, so I am proficient in it.
Elementary Math Tutoring
I have worked with elementary school students in mathematics courses, providing homework assistance, teaching problem solving skills, and relating problems to real world situations that they will understand. Most of this material is a foundation to my work, so I am proficient in it.
ACT Math Tutoring
I received a 30 on my ACT math portion. Much of the material hinges on algebra and geometry, which I am proficient in. I emphasize both knowledge and speed when working with students, often showing shortcuts so that the students do not need to work out every detail of every problem.
GRE Tutoring
I received a 163 on my GRE quantitative reasoning portion. Much of the material hinges on high school math, which I am proficient in. I emphasize both knowledge and speed when working with students, often showing shortcuts so that the students do not need to work out every detail of every problem.
