Fun Facts

I'm an avid runner, and do 2 or 3 races per year. I have what could be described as an eclectic taste in humor. I recently moved to Brooklyn, and find love the pace.

About Me

I'm a 1st-year PhD student at the Graduate Center - CUNY. My focus is developmental psychology. Our courses are discussion-based, and we look at development both in terms of infancy through adolescence and in terms of life-time development. My dissertation will likely involve intervention design for students with autism.

I have taught statistics at the college level. I have found great joy working one-on-one with students I've taught, as well as students I have mentored through graduate studies. I enjoy helping people grasp the ideas behind their schoolwork.

I believe in the "teach a man how to fish" approach. I want students to be able to grasp the concepts, not just memorize facts.
Unfortunately, NYC teachers can be overwhelmed with class sizes, and are often constrained by curriculum that tries to include everyone. The difficulty is many students may be more engaged by different modes of instruction - a "visual learner" would have a hard time learning via an oral lecture. I think it's best to learn from the student how they optimally comprehend subject matter, so they can adopt strategies that work for them.
