Fun Facts
General background: I have lived in Illinois my whole life and currently reside in Chicago, Illinois. I love to travel and my goal is to visit every continent. So far, I have only been to North America (Canada included), South America (Brazil), and Europe (Germany, Switzerland, Austria, and a tiny country called Liechtenstein).
About Me
I became intrigued in chemistry when my grandmother bought me a chemistry set when I was a freshman in high school. I was hooked on chemistry the first time I messed around with it. I also am a numbers enthusiast whether it concerns my spending habits or calculating the tip at a restaurant (in my head; who needs a calculator when your brain is fully capable of solving any school-related problem you may have).
I am a senior at DePaul University and my major is biochemistry with minors in mathematics and biology. I am apart of the chemistry club at DePaul University and enjoy it so much.
chicago">Tutoring philosophy: 1) REPETITION is key: It is hard for any student to grasp a concept or mathematical formula the first time they taught and that is why I encourage students to study, work on problems, or read their book over and over again until they fully understand what their teacher's objective(s).
2) Start with the basics: Example: If a student is struggling with the calculating the Gibb's free energy of reactions (in thermodynamics), the first step is see if the student knows what each variable represents (definition included) in the Gibb's free energy equation (detlaG = deltaH -TdeltaS), has the student converted each unit to its preferred conformation, and finally if the student is using the right enthalpy and entropy values/conversions.
3) If focused, success will come: This is one of the most critical methods when chicago">tutoring a student. The student must be aware that they will most likely not understand or remember every concept or formula they are given and that is why stress is every student's number one foe. Always stay positive and if a student is having trouble with this, I am there to reassure them that any obstacle can be overcome as long as they stay focused and follow the preceding two guidelines described above (1: repetition, 2: Basics).
