Fun Facts
When I'm not shaping young minds, I love being out and about! I love outdoor sport: hiking, camping, canoeing, biking, etc... I love crafts, especially drawing or embroidery. When I want to get out and be social I love to go see live music or dance or go to an art performance. I have 1 cat named Morley who is 8 and a lot of fun.
About Me
I have my degrees in political science and communications from Eastern Michigan University. My career has been based in social justice advocacy and childcare. My dream job would be US Secretary of Education, but I'll settle for being an education advocate for a nonprofit. Currently I work as a cyber school tutor for a 6th grader.
Experience
Currently I am in my 2nd year as a tutor for a cyber school student with social-emotional impairments. He's in 6th grade and can be a challenge, but a challenge I (mostly) love. Before this I have worked as a nanny and tutor for elementary school students. As a volunteer I currently advise a college sorority on marketing and philanthropy. In the past I worked with students from elementary to high school as a volunteer teacher for youth in shelters.
Approach
As a child, I was diagnosed with ADD at 9yrs old. This mainly affected my math comprehension. I believe that everyone can learn when the information is presented to them in a way that helps them learn. Education isn't one size fits all. When a teacher is excited to teach and committed to helping the information get to the student, you can open so many doors for them. I want to help students learn how they can learn and the joy that comes from learning
