Fun Facts

I am an Oregonian living life to the fullest here in Chicago. On any given weekend you will find me exploring everything this city has to offer or relaxing in my apartment with a nice home-cooked meal and a Redbox movie. I enjoy running on a regular basis, hitting the slopes in Wisconsin at least a couple of times a season (I own a snowboard), improving my photography skills, and catching up on my reading. Traveling is something I can't live without and make an international escape once a year.

About Me

As stated above, I grew up in Oregon. I was born and raised in a small coastal town of about 7,000 people that triples in population over the summer. Having four brothers and being the only girl, I was somewhat of a Tomboy growing up! Even though my family is far away in distance, I am very close to them. It is hard being away at times, but I do love my life here and can't see myself leaving anytime soon.

I went to Oregon State University receiving my BA in Education in 2005 with a minor in Spanish. While in school, I was involved in Alpha Xi Delta sorority that had the primary focus of working with children. I jumped at the opportunity to study Spanish for a semester in Argentina and doing a teaching internship in Peru for another semester.

Once I finished college, I spent two years teaching English in Asia. In Japan, I worked with children and adults of all ages doing hour long small classes. In Korea, I ran a kindergarten classroom and then elementary short sessions in the evenings.

When I was ready to move back to the US, I decided to try a completely different area out from where I grew up in and began taking night classes for graduate school at Concordia University. I completed my teaching credentials and masters December 2010. In June 2011, I completed my ESL certification. While in school I was lucky enough to find a job being a classroom assistant at a Chicago Public School working with education/illinois/chicago">Special Education and RTI. In August 2011, I was hired on by Evanston School District full time as an ESL Teacher.

So all in all, I am a certified teacher grades K-9 with an added ESL certification that is looking for an extra source of income through chicago">tutoring. I have 5+ years of experience in the educational field which includes working with students that are falling behind, English language learners, and education/illinois/chicago">Special Education. I am a big fan of using visuals and doing hands-on activities with students since I believe the best way of learning is by doing. I take time to get
