Fun Facts

I have been in ballet classes, ice skating classes and gymnastics classes.
I love NFL Football and my favorite teams are the Bears, Steelers and Cowboys; there is not a Sunday I am not watching or recording the games.
I have several championships as a powerlifter, including a National USA title.
However, the most intriguing fact about me is that my younger sister and I share the same birthday, September 28, but six years apart, mine in 1992 and her's in 1998.

About Me

I was born in Elmhurst, Illinois but moved to small-town Crystal City, Texas when I was four. I am the oldest of four kids, two sisters and one brother. I graduated from The University of Texas at San Antonio, majoring with a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies (Education). I have been a teacher for three years; 1 year as a 2nd grade teacher and 2 years as a Kinder teacher. I have experience tutoring and educating kids from elementary up to high school. I was a summer camp counselor for a program called Camp Get Fit, in which it was my job to teach students how to eat healthy and exercise right. I had the younger elementary children, ages ranging from 5-8 and taught them with the lesson plans given to me by our supervisor. Another program I participated in through high school was the Peer Tutoring program. In this program I was paired with an upper class man, lower class man, or classmate that was having trouble in a class and tutored them for two hours after class every day, until they began to pass. I believe these jobs gave me the knowledge and skills I need to help kids struggling with school and get them to better understand the subjects.

When I first begin tutoring a student I have them solve a problem for me, whether it be a math equation or reading-comprehension/texas/san-antonio">reading comprehension question; I do this so I can see where they are having issues understanding what needs to be done. Once they solve it or just cannot finish the problem, I slowly and in a step-by-step process, show them how to solve or answer the question. They can ask me any questions along the way, or ask me to go back and further explain a step. After, I will have them do several more problems similar to the initial one, all while giving them the solved problem as a reference sheet. When we both feel confident in their abilities to solve and understand the problem, we will move onto the next problem or lesson.
