Fun Facts

I love to read....fiction, non-fiction, autobiographies, biographies, Wikipedia, you name it! I am a big fan of the 80's show Falcon Crest and I would forgo Friday night football games in high school so that I could watch it. This was before DVRs and Tivo and even VCRs for the first few seasons of the show. Lucky for me....we got a VCR for Christmas in 1985 so I was able to watch my favorite show AND have a social life. I also have visited many of the show's filming sites in Napa Valley.

About Me

I always wanted to be a teacher when I was growing up. My younger sister and countless friends "were coerced" into playing school....with me being the teacher, of course! By the time I reached college, my aspirations had changed and I majored in Broadcast Journalism. However, my yearning to teach didn't go away. Many years later, my sister, who was getting her Master's in Special Ed, told me that she thought I had a gift and encouraged me to start tutoring. I haven't looked back since!

Experience

I have experience tutoring all ages....from pre-schoolers to adults. My passion is working with students who have learning and behavioral challenges. I have worked with students with Dyslexia, Dysgraphia, Dyscalculia, ADHD, ADD, ODD, visual processing disorders and other cognitive and behavioral issues that make learning in a traditional classroom a challenge. I also have extensive experience with 504s and IEPs. I use the Barton Reading & Spelling system for teaching dyslexics to read.

Approach

Learning has always been an adventure for me. My family always joked that my profession would be that of a "professional student." I enjoy sharing my enthusiasm for learning with others and when I can cultivate that same excitement in others, I have reached my true Nirvana. I don't adhere to one particular teaching method. My goal is to find what method(s) and style(s) work best for each individual learner.
