Fun Facts

I grew up on a farm in rural southwest Nebraska. I was the first person on either side of my family to attend a university, and up graduating became the first to enroll in graduate school! Outside of math, I love baseball and the New York Yankees in particular. Having gone to college at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, I am a die-hard cornhusker fan through and through.

About Me

I am a second year Ph.D. student at North Carolina State University in the mathematics department. I did my undergraduate study at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln also in mathematics. I love teaching and tutoring and have a long term goal of becoming a Professor of mathematics at a University.

Experience

In high school I scored a perfect 36 on the math portion of the ACT. Since then, I have taken numerous classes, and even had the opportunity to teach along the way. I am currently in my sixth semester as a Calculus TA, where I've taught recitations and graded tests. I also have tutoring experience in excess of 320 hours with formal training at both University of Nebraska and North Carolina State University.

Approach

Having taught many calculus recitations, I have had the opportunity to master the craft of creating examples that teach good mathematical intuition as well as a strong understanding of the subject. I've found that the best way to learn math is to practice through both an understanding of definitions and theorems, and a chance to apply said theorems to actual problems. I've learned over the years that different students require different approaches, thus tutoring must be tailored appropriately.
